I returned a broken USA Craftsman ratchet to Sears the other day and they didn't rebuild it.
They gave me a brand new craftsman long Handel 3/8 ratchet
I didn't know it was made in China until I got home.
Looks the same as the USA ratchet but has a metal gear selector instead of the plastic one.:shocking:

No it doesn't. Identical, yes, the same, no.

Yep, had the same thing happen to me years ago. Funny this thread came up I was just talking about it in my "tip the snap on truck guy" thread. Since the first USA one broke, I've broke 2 of the Chinese made ratchets. Tonight I said enough is enough and ordered a Snap-On SR80A, can't wait!

I finally wore out a 1960s-70s craftsman rachet of my Dads a few years back, I got a China one in trade, I won't make that 45 min drive again for China stuff. I just go a couple blocks and get husky China or used SK stuff from my local industrial supply house for my home garage now.

Is Sears still open ?

The Chinese ones are several notches above the last generation of American ones.

A ratchet made out of Lego's would be considered notches above cman rp ratchets, even after you put the Lego's in a microwave, and then out them in a blender

Just ask them for a rebuild kit they are free....rebuild your USA ratchet and put some rll in it it will be 100 times better..last time I was at Sears o got like 5 of each kit

I probably have 10 rp ratchets and never use them unless I have to abuse a ratchet as a last resort..

I have a 3/8 flex that is Chinese and I'm purposefully trying to break it to see what it will take. Hasn't done terrible so far, but hasnt got that good of a workout yet.

I got one Chinese raised panel ratchet in return for a us made 1/2 that crapped out...the finish was awful, the craftsman stamping on the handle was crooked...so much so that part of the "c" was missing. Everyone I saw in the store looked similar...absolute junk.

My sears refuses to give out kits. Both of them, actually.
