Chinese Craftsman Tools, How bad can it REALLY be?

So, this year we organized a Secret Santa type deal. I put a few Craftsman Tools on my wishlist, really hoping to get the 55 buck 3 ton jack package from Home Depot. Got an 108 piece tool CM set made in china. When I opened it everything looked good. Not excellent like my previous USA made tools but good enough. I figured I was going to beat on them anyways so finish didn't really matter to me. Wake up this morning and thought, "Let me do a thorough inspection to see what these Garage Journal people are complaining about"

To my shock, the quality is insanely horrible. Took a few sockets out, outside was fine, looked on the inside, and some came conveniently pre rusted! Niiice!! Then I went to put them into the ratchets, and there's some play when they're on the ratchet! Checked the holes to see if the squares line up and most are noticeably off.

I don't think Sears will return without a receipt either :( I would even take store credit. Will post pictures soon

Craftsman is forever. Never had to have a receipt to exhange. Swap everything that's bad for another set or open stock..which should be usa.

Sears will exchange without a receipt for in-store credit.

**** happens, sockets get rusty sometimes in shipping. It's not the end of the world for a GIFT. Meaning, it was a gift and you didn't pay for it.

Seems like you are just ****-hurt you didn't get the gift you wanted.

Haha no not **** hurt at all, this was something I wanted. I was just disappointed in the quality is all. It definitely isn't the end of the world. I just wanted to post in case someone was thinking of doing the same as I did and give it a try.

I found it the other way around, I've had plenty of usa craftsman that they missed in QC, Last order from sears I got the 42 pc bit set. did ship to home hoping it would be an old stock usa set since all the stores around me where china. Ratchet right off the bat better then the old USA ones I have from the 90's to 2000's. sockets about on par, chrome is better on some, worse on others. fit and finish about the same, extensions and adaptors I would say usa where better designed.

I also got usa industrial sockets as filler since some are clearance on the site listed as professional use on the same order. Couple of them where much worse shape then the china sockets. Craftsman has all ways had hit or miss on QC, there cheap, they work and there easily exchanged if they break.

They will return it for store credit but there is not much in the store that's not china, these days unless you want to piece stuff together from loose stock in the store or online.

I'll probably end up exchanging the pieces when they get bad enough since it was a gift from a future brother in law.
