Last night my in laws water pressure pump motor went out. Fortunately I keep a spare, since mine typica go out on Saturday afternoons. The motor I had was gotten for me by a friend who worked at a motor repair shop as a trade for some welding work. He has since passed away. The motor was a spankin’ new Leeson 2 HP, 3450 rpm, 56J frame 230/115 volt motor. after I installed it, I discovered it was the nicest, quietest, pump motor I have put in. Quick easy start, very quiet, and under a plug in the back of the motor it had a big slot to hold the motor to get the front impeller off (generally there is the centrifugal switch in the way).
trying to replace the motor, it appears that Leeson has discontinued it, and it is only available for $850. The other motor brands that I am seeing are AO smith, Century, and US Motors. I have no idea of the quality of these motors. Anybody have any ideas on how to get a good quality new motor for a water pump? Also, there are some motors that are marked for pool pumps, and some marked not for pool pumps, both of which are 56J motors, any ideas as to why?
