Off the wall question:

Can a port-a-band be mounted onto a frame similar to a miter chop saw so that it will swing down like a miter saw and still be able to be pivoted laterally to cut angles?

I like the idea of the vertical mounting, but for cutting long or heavy pieces I think it would be easier to have a table to rest the material on then simply lower the blade to the material. I realize this might take some fabrication, but that to me is half the fun.

Yes.

Small horizontal / vertical band saw. I've got a Jet and a craigslist Wilton.

Clamp the work in, lower the blade and flip the switch and walk away.

My abrasive saw sits on the bottom shelf..messy and too many sparks.

The dry cut saws look interesting.

Here's the Ellis band saw I have. It is one of the things I would get out if shop was on fire. It cuts whatever I can fit under the blade. Sweet little machine.
