Dewalt, Milwaukee, HF, etc.

Going to be cutting a bunch of unistrut.

Any saw the best or better then the rest or any that are no good? All the same? Used them before but never owned one.

What have you used and your opinions on them?

I have the metal blade dewalt, cuts great no sparks, no stink, lots of metal chips.

A dry cut saw gets my vote for Unistut. It would be WAY faster than bandsaw and provide a clean ready to use cut as compared to an abrasive chop saw.

I like my Makita dry cut saw but I haven’t tried any others.

BTW I still have my 35 year old Makita abrasive chop saw which I will NEVER get rid of. I keep it for cutting dirty metals of unknown hardness.

I have a bandsaw also but for unistrut the dry cut chop saw would be 3 times quicker and more efficient.

I have and have used a metal cutting band saw. Needing the chop saw for the portability. The non abrasive cutting option would be nice but those saws seem quite a bit more expensive?

I've not been real impressed with the DeWalt saw, cheap guard and clamp, don't like the stamped base either.

I got a 12" skil a while back and it's my favorite over any of the 14" saws I have or have used.

I agree with above. Have the 14" DeWalt, it's a fine saw, but cold cut would be so much better. I don't think we've used it in at least a year w/ a band saw and portaband both around. I wouldn't mind even a cheap cold cut saw, tho.

I like my 20A Ridgid. Better than the Milwaukee I had at work. d50633fb3f971102c1bf35733072be4e.jpg

A chop saw will work just fine on your Unistrut. Check your local CL or OfferUp. I picked up my Milwaukee for $20 on CL. It was pretty beat up but it worked. Brought it home and tore it apart. After verifying the brushes were good, I cleaned it up and painted it, replaced the power cord and cutting wheel and it's served me well for the last 10 years!

Milwaukee has an M12 portaband that works great for unistrut. Or if you want more capacity their M18 portaband works even better. I have the M12 and love it for unistrut and all thread and other metal cutting under 1.5".

A abrasive chop saw will will provide skin cutting fingers. They should be cleaned up or abusive language will follow.
We cut bundles of unistrut in a bandsaw when the same length is required.
For jobsite use as mentioned a chain vise tripod and Milwaukee portaband is standard procedure.

My favorites-

abrasive chop saw- Milwaukee, only because of the cast base.

dry cut- Evo 14" (blue)

bandsaw- Milwaukee portaband or even the HF Braun?

Or check out the FEM saws.
