That coe chop absolutely RULES!

I see you're in Utah, I have a 26 T roadster decklid that needs to be re-skinned (I have the skin). I'd like some louvers (not a ton) punched into it, too. Would you be interested????

Nice work on the sign! Where did you source the lace from?

The lace was left over from the locker I built and painted for my daughter a couple of years ago. The wife picked it up at Walmart.

I am game to punch louvers if you are set on having louvers that are this big. If you are not set on 12" wide louvers I could point you in the right direction to get 3-4" louvers. I do not own the press that I used to punch my louvers. So it takes some time to put the dies back on a press and dial in the clearances.

Thanks, I'll have to check them out. The wagon's owner had talked about lacing the roof.

I am a fan of laced roofs. It is something you rarely see anymore. My wife thought I was crazy when I laced the sign but I had her search "60's lace paint jobs" and now shes a believer. Lace could be in the future for the bed floor I am building.

Also if you haven't done lace before I will tell you from my very limited experience the large/coarse mesh lace looks significantly better than a very fine mesh lace. The fine mesh gave faded edges where the coarse mesh gave very crisp edges.

I was up in Idaho over the weekend and I brought home the old hand painted sign that was in front of my Dad and Grandpa's shop. It was taken down after my dad passed away and was getting beat up so I thought this would be a good place for it. Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier because this is one of those things that just feels right.

"...feels right" because it is right Royce, it's very appropriate for you to hang the sign in the presence of your Grandpa's '55.

...and it's a great looking old sign too..

Finished boxing and welding each section of the bed floor that I had started so far. Eight arched sections and sixteen ends. This should fill in the width between the wheel tubs. I am thinking about finishing this section up before starting the two front and two rear outer most pieces that will transition from the tub width to the bed side width. Currently planning on punching a bunch of holes in the bent over flanges and plug welding all of the pieces together.

I have a couple of indoor car shows coming up that require stanchions. I picked up some 6.5" diameter Cat pistons that I plan to use. To make thing more difficult than they need to be I fabb'd this post out of 3 pieces of slip rolled sheet metal. Each piece started out 4" wide at the base and taper to 3" wide at the top. Plan is to attach the pistons to the top and come up with a heavy wide base (might be buick finned drums for the near term).

Started welding the bed pieces together. Need to set it in the bed and take some measurements prior to going any further.

Then I pressed the hubs out of the Pontiac drums. Still need to do the Buick drums. Pretty scary to press on the aluminum drum.

Finished welding and grinding the stanchion uprights.

Royce, I must have my head up my *** not to have seen this thread. Your craftsmanship and imagination are beautiful. Great job on the 55, it is more than a legacy of your grandfather and dads. It's part of yours as well. Your build has givin someone who's seen it drive, ideas, and confidence to do theirs. Thanks for posting this build and I will deffinatly be following the COE.

Thanks for the great comments. Hopefully I will get back to work on the COE soon.

Little more progress today on the floor. Set the back section in the truck to figure out what needs to be done on the two outer pieces.

Trimmed and welded a section of angle on on the under side for rigidity.

Welded and ground

Now for the front section. Should go quicker than the rear but I dread having to take it in and out a few more times before this is done.

Didn't get too much work done this week since I was gone on travel most of the week for work then when I got back I had to change the timing belt and water pump on the wife's car.

The floor is just about ready to set in and see how it fits.

The lettering is finished on the sign. The lettering that looks white is actually silver.

Truck made it to the indoor show last weekend. It was fun but it was a long show.

Cleaned the floor up and moved into the booth. Should get it primed tomorrow night.

Need to get this floor done and debating on a couple of minor changes in the engine bay then hopefully I will be back to work on the COE.

Amazing, I love how you build everything. Even the stanchion uprights are built not bought.

Thanks, always good to get a complement for a sickness.

Floor is now primed and drink is mixed - nice start to the weekend after a long week.

Spent another week on company travel but I did manage to painted the floor this weekend.

Also picked up a working 50's refrigerator for the basement. Someone painted it with a roller and house paint. For what it is worth, the best thing I found to remove the house paint was lacquer thinner. Need to straighten it up a bit then will likely do a wild 60's paint scheme.

Now that I look back on what's happened since my last post, I am kicking myself for not keeping up. I'll try to keep it brief then do a better job in the future.

Painted the old refrigerator for the basement. All the base was done in black and white. Used un-thinned lacquer to cobweb the solid black sections (photos dont show after kandy but you can see them in person). After base I applied cobalt blue KBC kandy.

Then I decided to wash my truck because it looked like hell and after washing it didn't look much better. I pulled out my knife and started picking at stuff and it didn't take long to know I was committed. Originally I planned to just strip and repaint from the chrome down. It quickly grew to this.

Ended up repainting everything including the door jambs and inside of doors. Top color is still white base with white and gold pearl sprayed over it. The bottom color is jeeps rescue green.

Bought the wife a 63 Corvair Greenbrier van to cruise around in. It had 73,000 original miles with original paint and no rust. Started right up and ran good. I put shocks on and registered it,

First time the wife drove it with her parents to a car show I was taking the chopped truck too didn't go so well. Its now a goner.

After that, I helped a friend do a roof on a 60 caddy.

Finally back to work on the COE. Will try to post the progress on that thread later tonight.

That fridge is really cool! Sorry about the Greenbrier. My dad sold chevys in the early 60's and had one as a demo. It was a great car.

Got the truck out to a Fathers day car show in Idaho. The family and I had a great time. Many of the old timers remembered the truck and told me stories of when my grandpa and dad had it. It felt good to have its first show on Fathers day and the comments I received I will remember for a life time.

Parked next to my uncles 55.

First time seeing your thread.

I saw your truck at the car show in IF

Thanks to all for looking and commenting. Everyone is still recovering from the wreck (one has a much further road to recovery than the others) but in the end everyone is still alive and will recover.

Based on T_Ravens picture above, I should probably start taking paint pictures with the wifes nice camera and quit using the iPhone.

As far as paint guns, I don't have anything special. I have three SATA conventional gravity feed guns (primer, base and clear). The gun I use for clear I bought when I was in high school. Other two I got when my dad passed away. Also have a good spraying sharpes cup gun that I rarely use (recently used for spraying cob webs on fridge).

After college, I moved out of state and didn't have a shop to paint in. After about 4 years I picked up my 78 crewcab and built it in my garage, trailered to Idaho and painted over a long weekend. Once again quit painting for another 5 years before I built my shop and painted the chop truck. Now that I have a booth and am painting more regularly I have been debating on getting a new gun to try.

I actually took that pic with my Razr Maxx HD lol. Good camera on it apparently. I'd love to get into photography a little so I could take better pics of my stuff.

Are you from IF? Where in Utah do you life if you don't mind me asking?

I grew up in Tremonton but I've lived in IF since 2003.

I recently bought the wife a nice camera and wish she would get into photography to take better pictures of my stuff.

I grew up in Roberts (~15 miles north of IF). I moved out of Idaho in early 2004 to the Tooele area. In 2006 moved to Thatcher just outside of Tremonton and have been there ever since.

Wow I didn't know people moved to Thatcher lol.

We lived on 10400 N just east of the salt creek on my grandpa's farm. You probably drive past it all the time. My grandma died last summer and the family sold the farm though.
