Hope to start on the rudder and elevator tomorrow.

Dang Royce, your going to knock this out in record time. I always liked doing those square to round transitions. I had to do one in .025 steel once for a machine cover.

Sent from my SM-A102U using The Garage Journal mobile app

Thanks Jim,
I enjoy sheet metal layout too, although I'm not too proficient at it.
The method of using true lengths, I find fun.

Hung the prop, to get a feel for how tall to make the landing gear.
It is clear that the prop is oversized by a good margin.
May cut it down, a touch.

When I was a kid, I had (for a short while) a gas powered airplane that flew on a tether line. Looking at your latest project, I couldn't help but wonder if you were installing the ceiling fan motor and planning on flying this on a very long extension cord used as a tether.

That sounds like the makings for a Wile E Coyote cartoon!

Made a wee bit of progress today, on the rudder.
Opted to make it in two pieces, to try to get some foil shape to it.
We'll see if it pans out.

Are the tabs on the rudder pieces offset along the perimeter so they interlock once folded like a zipper?

More cool projects Royce! I’ve been waiting to comment until they were done, but the plane is looking great and I’m left wondering what the next project will be…

Thanks Outwest,
Plenty of ideas, but have not zeroed in on one, yet.

Here's a pic of the tail end of the tail.
It was not figured, measured or degreed, just eyeballed, whittled and pecked to shape with a hammer.
I really enjoy the crudeness of it.

WOW Royce... You've done it again...Twice.... Outstanding

What would you value your protractor at???
Yours is only the second one of that style I have seen....
I have the other one... Like it more than the "NEW" style for a lot of projects...

Well done on the chair and the plane is looking great....

Thanks Lynn,
I wouldn't know the monetary value, but work wise it is a fine tool and I put a high value on it.
The adjustable stops on it, to dial in true square, really make it a cut above.

I've followed your work on GJ for years and am continually impressed by the creativity and craftsmanship. That said, of all of the projects that you've shared, this is the one that I would most like to own. Not even finished, and it's perfect.

Painted the prop blades and a stripe on the fuselage.
Still need to paint tail numbers on it, that will represent her date of birth.

When the meteor hits again there will be nothing left on Earth except a big hole, dirt, and everything Royce has ever built of metal!

I bet the family will be stoked with your gifts!

Thanks Bigblue,
We delivered the chair to our youngest daughter today and she's tickled.

Also got some stripes on the prop blades today.

Lastly,
Pulled some boiler tubes out of the bone pile.
Should be able to cob a stand or hanger out of them, for the plane.
Need to work up a design.

Bears,
That would be quite a sight!

Started out the day designing a frame for hanging the plane.
Couldn't make it work, so abandoned that thought and decided on a stand.
Started with a roller bearing arbor, but had design issues with it.
Decided to use a couple 1" pillow blocks and a long 1" bolt, for the pivot.

Thought about how to set up the pitch and roll.
Decided on nose down with a bit of roll.
Here's a pic of what I think will work.

You know if you'd used rivets instead of those BA screws it might have gotten off the ground:thumbup:

Very nice work, thanks for sharing.
