Got Santa's shop opened up, for the season.

One of my daughters sent me a pic of a tensegrity table, which is a table that appears to be floating in air.

My thought is to use the same principal for a chair.
So, after some research, a foot of pencil lead and a yard of eraser, got the base cut up and welded.

The protractor is a vintage Starrett and has not been modified.

Worked on the spine and seat member today.
Hope to get the seat tacked to the spine and check comfort tomorrow.

I've been a toolmaker for over 30 years and have never seen a protractor head like that one before, I like it.

My hand drawings aren't very good either, I cheat and use CAD.

Got the last of the spine pieces cut and welded out.
Also cut the members for the king chain supports.

I was watching some videos about these "tensegrity" chairs, it seemed that there were quit a few failures.
I'm looking forward to see if the geometry that I used, is functual or not!

Some how, these projects seem to get overly complex, but that is ok, if they function and look nice.
So far, this one functions well and the jury's still out on the looks.

One of my favorite features of the table is the flange bolt holes, not only for fixturing, but for keeping the mig torch within easy reach, all around the table.

Fiddled with arm rest design today.
Tacked up what I thought would work, but it did not look right, to my eye.

But then I quarter turned it and it don't look so bad now.
I think I'll move forward with this concept.

Reworked the armrests and got them welded out, but not attached.
Still not sure of the look.

I'll hold off attaching them, until the seat and back rest slats are fit up, to make sure it looks ok.

Yes, heated with steam.
It was around zero out and had a hard time getting enough heat.
