Wife bought me a Craftsman garage stool. Advertised as having a hydraulic piston. Today I opened the box to assemble it.

First problem is all the hardware to bolt it together is AWOL.
Apparently a kit that had all the hardware, and small wrenches was never placed in the box as the box was factory sealed.

Second issue is that the instructions state that it has a pneumatic piston.

I called the provided 800 number (original manufacturer), and was informed that they used to make the stool for Sears, but no longer do so, and could not provide the missing parts "kit". They were surprised Sears was still printing instructions with their 800 number.

So it's back to the store for a refund. Is the pneumatic piston a deal breaker anyway? Anybody have one with the pneumatic piston are they holding up (no pun intended) ?

I got the same one in red and put it together today. Definitely not the best quality but it'll do. I can only comment on the five minutes I spent on it today and it seems ok. Hopefully your wife only paid $49.99 which was the sale price. They are usually 89.99. Good luck.

If it is rhe one that says pro lift pneumatic, has a red seat and goes for around 30 bucks, it looks just like the HF one that can be had for under 20. I have one of those and it works O K though the seat could use a little more padding.

Well the wife contacted Seas this morning. They do not have the replacement parts available. They advised her to return the stool.

I bought the HFT flamed seat upholstery stool, and the shorty HFT stool sized for brake jobs or other close to the ground work. It's pretty comfortable, though the padding doesn't seem generous. I actually like it quite a bit especially for the price.

I wanted a stool w/a back, my son wanted one for his shop/garage, I've been helping him get started. He found a deal on the Craftsman stool w/a back, he bought two, gave one to me, and said, 'if you assemble mine!' I would have done that anyway.

So I built them both and I actually prefer the HFT plain stool, no back, to the Craftsman stool w/a back. I'm over 200 lb and that's my 'seat of the pants' report.

Pneumatic/hydraulic, probably nothing more than a mix up in translation.

I have 2 of the stools and am happy with them. I'd just return it and get a replacement. Go back in a week or so and see if your old stool is in the clearance section for cheap minus the hardware. After you get the replacement, you'll know what hardware you need is and pick it up at the hardware store. Buy your old stool cheap, pick up some nuts/bolts and have a second stool for cheap.

Well I ordered one yesterday and it arrived today or so sears says it did. Instead I received an 8 pack of sawzall blades. Call customer service and finally get to speak to a human who says I have to receive a refund and then reorder the item due to their screwup. Needless to say after reading about this I am going a different route.

I have the HF hydraulic that can frequently be bought for $20 and use it all the time. Could use better casters but then again, what do you want for $20.;)

They screwed up but you have to return it and get a refund and then re-order it. I have read about this type of thing before and it totally amazes me why they can't just send you what you originally ordered and tell you to keep the blades at no charge as compensation for your inconvenience. If Sears were to do that it would at least make the customer feel better.

Now you know why everybody is predicting Sears' imminent demise. Just get the HF stool. It is often on sale for under $20. Subscribe to their e mails and you will get sale coupons for 20% and occassionally 25% off, almost daily as well as discount coupons for specific items. I had a similar experience with Walmart. I ordered, on line, a hand held plastic case for parts storage and got a shelf unit of another brand with drawers. I returned it to a local Walmart and they refunded the cost of the item but refused to make good for the shipping.I spent a long time on the phone before I got a shipping refund and an apology. Be warned that Walmart and Walmart.com are run as separate entities and do not play well together. The store does not even have an inside phone number to the on-line operation and must use the same hang on for hours number that you use.

My wife ordered a shirt from JC Penney with store delivery since (1) it was free, (2) it was faster and (3)her school had a field trip where she would be at the mall with some free time and she could pick it up. She used my card number to pay for it which defaulted to my name. She was unable to pick it up because she did not have the card nor did the name match. SO we went to the store to pick up her shirt. The adult sized white shirt as marked on the package was in fact a small child's sized blue something or the other. The clerk had the audacity to ask if we wanted to keep it. Of course, it is no longer stocked. If we had shipped it to the house it would have been a much harder return process. Poor service is going to be the demise of most all of the brick and mortar stores.

had that happen twice, it's a huge PITA.

third time was a few weeks ago. ordered 4 toolsets, 270pc, and some 20 pcs and some other stuff. couple hundred bucks worth.

it never shows, they packed it wrong, track it and UPS holds it as hazmat w/o proper paperwork. call UPS, they work on it, nothing, 4 chats with sears and the REFUSE to cancel the order, want me to re-order and cancel. I say no way, I lost $30 in surprise points, and $50 on black Friday points...just give me my money back.

long story short --I threaten a lawyer to get my money back. they finally relent, and refund my money on the order. but I notice the order is not cancelled, just shows the refund...

last week the entire order showed up from UPS. opened, inspected, and re-packaged. entire order was Free of Charge...

how can they possibly stay in business???

Hi all,

I have made all of my on-line purchases with a credit card or a PayPal account backed up with a credit card.....

NEVER buy with a debit card or PayPal backed up with your bank account.....

It's really easy to fix if you have a problem with a credit card purchase...

First let a seller know that you have a problem with your purchase and if they don't resolve it, just call PayPal and/or your credit card company and dispute the charges.....

Before they contact the seller they remove the charge from your credit card bill..

The seller then has to defend their actions in order to get paid....

The credit card company will contact the seller and they get one chance to make it right or the credit card company will take the money out of the sellers account..

It has worked many times in the past and will work in the future...

Just sayin,
Bob

I agree, buying things using a credit card definitely has its advantages.

Yeah it's very easy to see why they are closing stores all across the US and Craftsman is about to be sold off. Hopefully some company can turn it around. For. Ow I won't be spending any money with them. Wife dropped the blades off at UPS and got a tracking number. We will see how this goes.

I am 71 now and I have been a big spender for at least 55 years. I have to say customer service is worst I have ever experienced, now. There seems to be a lack of understanding with many store sales persons who do not get it. "If I do not like the treatment, here, I have options that will not include you." I needed a MASTERCOOL 71500, The local seller wants $1768, two or three days to get one in with 50% up front, take it or leave it. I bought the same tool on Amazon.ca for $404 with free shipping and two day delivery.
