You have lots of earth shattering *** with them. So much that they think you are THE MAN and they will do anything for you and get you anything you want....

I make an Amazon wish list. I require all the family to make them and trade with each other.

Makes the task much easier and more enjoyable.
There is a browser plug-in from Amazon that will let you put an item from ANY site on your wishlist. It helps them find just the exact thing you're looking for.

I insist nobody buys me tools. I have what I need and they can't afford what I want. Don't bother buying me cheap junk that won't get used.

You just have to be upfront with them and tell them exactly what you want.

Or else they won't know. Women usually don't know tools. If you're lucky they'd end up at Sears and buy you some Craftsman stuff which you might have to return and exchange for stuff you actually need.

I ask her what she wants and she asks me what i want.

Hers is usually "quality time with the kids and peace on earth" and so on.

Mine: "babe ... i'd love a Stihl 041 chainsaw and a new kerosene heater and/or some 25' parrot-jaw jumper cables" :D

I FINALLY got my wife to stop buying me things for Christmas, and my B-day for that matter. She tries so hard, but it's always wrong. I don't need stuff from her. That being said, I suggest you try rsanter's method, I think he is on to something there.

Almost every tool my wife buys for me is some kind of new gadget seen on TV. Never get used, but they are cheap and not worth showing my dislike.... I just dont have the heart. Only happens about once a year and my son and I usually get a chuckle out of it. Her heart is in the right place.

On the other hand, she never questions or shows any concern if I make an expensive tool purchase, so the trade off is worth it.

We buy each other small gifts for Christmas. Thru out the year I bought her an all aluminum horse trailer, a Garth Brooks concert in Chicago, a November Garth Brooks concert in Lexington, and plenty of other stuff. I bought the things I wanted, also. Some years one of us gets the bigger stick. This was her year.

I show her something and say, that would be the perfect gift for me. Now let's have mind shattering, but tender loving ***.
