I know little to nothing about metallurgy but, the first word that comes to mind...hydrogen embrittlement.

That's why you should bake any plated iron/steel parts for a couple of days after the plating is done. Definitely cool, and I can see having a clean room vise chrome plated; much easier to clean/disinfect for medical device production. Don't see much need for a vise in electronics clean rooms; though when I worked at a hard drive manufacturer we had several very precise and expensive presses in the clean room.

He needs to buff it with some fine steel wool, make that sucker really shine.

And I agree, it's silly. The bullet vise however looks pretty sharp.

I don't think you would want to beat on it like a normal vise though, I would think the chrome would get upset.

No...they didn't come that way. However, just for fun, here is a chromed bullet style Wilton.

Awesome! Catalyze bought the West Coast Choppers edition Wilton bullet vise.

I found a Wilton Baby Bullet on ebay for .99 cents once. I was going to bid but ended up missing it by a few minutes. Nobody bid on the thing and it didn't sell. It was relisted and went for 86.00. I was pissed for missing that one.

I really like that chrome bullet vise. I would never use it though. I think I would just put it in the living room because its so pretty.

Note: I'm not one for shiny objects, I guess its just the classic look of that bullet vise that works with it.

Hydrogen embrittlement can also happen when removing rust from vises or tools with the electrolysis method used by many here, after all, a lot of hydrogen is produced when using this method, similar to when plating parts. Since most people do not know about this, they do not bake their parts to remove the hydrogen from the metal.
