chrome socket wall thickness

Over the years between using different brands and seeing posts regarding the subject, I have gotten into a habit of looking at the wall thickness fo all my socket sets. I have noticed most 12 point sockets have about the same wall thickness regardless of brand, but when it comes to 6 point sockets, thickness varies from brand to brand. Looking at my 1/2" drive chrome sets, my craftsman sockets I bought 10 years ago have the least amount of wall thickness, with the new kobalts have just slightly more, the proto sockets having just a little more than the kobalts, then the snap-on sockets being the thickest. Not looking for a brand war, but has anyone ran into problems with certain brands of sockets due to wall thickness? I have never had a problem with my craftsman or kobalts yet, but wonder if the thinner socket walls would hold up under high torque.

This is the very purpose of them inventing what are called 'thin wall sockets'.

Then with the advent of these aftermarket wheels, the tool companies have come out with special thin wall teflon coated sockets that fit into the tight clearances of the wheels and lugs and dont mar the finish.

It depends on your uses and needs.

Late mode auto work thinner might be more desirable, heavy equiptment I used impact sockets without issue. Thicker usually means stronger and thinner better access. There will be exceptions of course.
Joe Homeowner could get by with just about anything for his needs.
