we are a buick garage, and we have been outsourcing our key/remote programming on chyslers, mainly caravans and sebrings, but it's costing up 80 per unit to have them done. we will be losing buick next year and are going to start doing more brands.

we are going to buy a new scantool, either an OTC or a snapon unit, but does anyone know if makes a scantool that will not only do bi-direction stuff but program remotes?

i was told snap on does, but my dealer is an idiot lol

i dont want to have to pick up a drb3 and a starscan, but we might have to!

It depends on the ages of the vehicles and volume but, you'll probably have to get a starscan. Aftermarket coverage on Chrysler vehicles is limited at best. Although painfully expensive, there is no substitute for OE scan tools. You might consider getting Auto Enginuity on a laptop to cover most of your needs though.

we are talking about 07+ vehicles, but the starscan only covers 08+ for sure, some 05-07's. i dunno the boss says we spend 3k a year getting things programmed like that....in a few years we'd easily be ahead with a nice scan tool.

anyone know it any of the snapon ones do remote/key fob programming?

If you have both keys/fobiks, you can do it without the scan tool. I think you insert one key, turn it to run and wait a second, then do the same with the second. After that you should see the security light come on in the cluster (And possibly hear a ding); when that occurs insert the new key and turn to run. It'll ding if it programmed correctly.

It's listed in the owner's manual, so double-check my ramblings.

Otherwise, StarScan or DRB.

on 07+ cars we've found you cannot program without the scanner....on most 00-06's we've had alright luck doing it

I know you can program dodge ram's without the scan tool, providing you have both keys and your programming a third key. If you don't have one key, you need a scanner.

I did my 08 dodge ram this way, that's how I know. I can send the directions if need be.

Neither Snap On or OTC do remote key fob programming. OE tools are needed for that
