Chuck change ‘78 Duracraft DP-514

I am restoring a Duracraft Dp-514. Purchased with a few other items at an estate sale.

The chuck is unserviceable (see pics). I cannot tighten due to mangled chuck key ports.
I don’t have the manual and would like to replace the chuck. Many you tube vids later and I have eliminated a few options (no slot for wedging), but have little experience with how much ‘strike force’ I should attempt.

I have dropped the spindle from the pulley assembly and inspected it. Looked clean for a 48 yr old. I may be wrong but it looks like someone may have attempted to epoxy the chuck onto the adapter shaft (see close up). I can see what looks like squeeze out where the chuck body meets the adapter.

Among many things I don’t know here, should the chuck drop away from the adapter? Should the adapter drop from the quill?

Hope the pics help and someone has some ideas. Otherwise this machine will do exactly what I need!

That chuck is held on by a close fitting taper. Make some wedges that fit in the top of the chuck, and it should jump off. You may have to heat that chuck to release that epoxy or what ever it is.

I'm guessing your chuck is JT33, but you'd want to confirm that.
