I purchased a Cincinnati Bickford Super-Service 21" and the seller told me that it took #3MT drills. It is hooked up and running but when I ordered a bit for it the 3MT was way too small. Anybody know what size I should look for? I am going to a machine shop later this week to discuss this with them. They are pretty helpfull. Thanks

21" Super Service drills could be ordered with a #3MT or #4MT spindle, I think. You can determine the taper size by measuring the OD of the taper socket and comparing it to a Morse Taper size chart.
They're excellent machines, some of the best ever built. Enjoy and don't forget to post some photos, but be careful with it. The machine is perfectly capable of shattering a 1-1/2" drill or winding you and your part into a tight little ball. Proper drill sharpening, speed and feed selection and work clamping is important on heavy drilling machines. The 21" was rated to provide about 2-1/2 tons of feed force.
