Cincinnati Something Another

I got a Cincinnati something another here at estate auction the other day, posted in the garage sale thread but I figured I would start a specific thread for info and pics to keep up with.
I do not know anything about machine work, I have ideas from tv and internet and learn fast but treat me like a layman please. I would like as much info as y'all are willing to share, please post your machines and things you made with similar machines or any info you have on this one.

Here it is in the po's shop where it sat when I won it.

The old man's son said he was sure it was hooked up single phase 240 but did not have a clue how. Does anyone know if this capacitor setup will converts to 3 phase? There is a starter button wired in right above the capacitor box and that is a standard single phase plug, correct?

It looks like what you have is a vertical mill. From the motor tag 1HP. 3 phase, so you need to get someone like an electricion to check it out. It also looks like it has a very small table wich will limit its use. You will find a step pulleys belt drive system for spindle speeds under the top cover. I have a Cincinnati Milling Machine Co. mill, it is not the same style but some simulances. Have fun.

Unless you have 3 PH I think you are looking for a VFD for that bad boy. You might get by with a treadmill motor for it, but I'd definitely keep the pulley sets and gear it down for the slower speeds and keep the revs up if you do.

It's been confirmed over on H-M that I can run it on single phase 20 or 30a circuit with this starter setup.

So, I was on the fence a while about keeping this thing or parting it out, after receiving the manual from two great guys here, I have decided to keep her. She's been blue tarped out back ever since I got her, neglected. Last week I cut some risers out of 2x3 3/16" box tubing and welded leveling nuts on the bottom. Now I can scoop it up with the forklift or pallet jack, move it and level it easily. I have been soaking her with penetrating lubricant and have everything turning freely by hand. The oil pump and motor is in there, I just need the valve and flex hose outside. For the last two days I have been applying paint remover and scraping many layers/colors of paint off. Once I get her stripped, I plan to paint her and put her to work.

I finally got a place cleaned out in the shop but will be at a car show this weekend so it will be next week before I bring her in.

I have an Index Model 55 mill which looks very similar to yours but I have a longer table and a power feed to it. I run it off sgl ph240 with a small cheater box phase faker very similar to what you have in the pwr box pictured. It simply uses a capacitor to fake the 3rd phase and the relay drops it out after up to speed, then it runs on 2 phase but only at 2/3 power of the motor.

I wish, it's my shop landlord's deuce, turbo whistles dixie, that truck runs great. I think it has like 800 or 1800 hours on it, something awful low for the age.
