Anyone know why my 6 1/2 and 7 1/4 battery saws have the motor on the right of the blade vs the left? I enjoy a great line of sight like a worm drive but with half the bulk. Also, blade rotation is CW vs CCW and the blades are designed accordingly, although I have older 6 1/2 blades from another saw that went CCW... are these traits of all cordless saws?

not sure why battery circular saws are blade on the left, I do like them for that. the shaft turns the same way on them as electric, but being the blade is on the other side it's rotation is backwards . ( blade always lifts the wood to the base)

How are the blades specific? One saw will have the blade label on the inside, one will have it on the outside, same blade.

I have a "leftie" Milwaukee corded circular saw. After using it for a while I cannot go back to a normal saw.

good question. my gues: a full size circ saw with motor on left has a frt. handle so you can use 2 hands. they are heavy and it helps run a straight cut.

the small cordless jobs are lighter and can be run single handed, most people are right handed. if you put a 2nd left hand on it, it would be in front of the blade.

so I think a single handed saw would be motor on right, as most are right handed, but a heavier saw requiring 2 hands is safer with motor on left and left hand on front handle...

I have a Ridgid 6-1/2 18V Li-Ion saw that has the blade on the right, like a regular Skilsaw. Granted it's not as easy to use from the standpoint of visibility of the cut line, but that's what I learned to use years ago and it doesn't bother me much.

In your basement...seriously, go look now!

They are traits of most cordless circular saws...something that I learned the hard way. The first one I owned was an 18v PC and I installed the blade backwards and couldn't figure out why it wasn't cutting anything until I looked closer and realized my error. I nearly repeated the error with my new saw (Ryobi 18v) with the arbor screw which wouldn't come off no matter which direction I turned it (CCW or CW).

Yea I thought about that and technically, if both motors were sitting side by side with drive shafts parallel, they'd be rotating opposite each other. Lefty loosey righty tighty when working overhead confuses me sometimes, and this is right up that alley lol.

Just last week I gave my 18v nicad PC saw, full size one, to my next door neighbor. He's a painter but gets into the other trades as well. The saw worked great, just needs a charger for the 18v battery

Just went and looked, my Makita corded and Rigid x3 are right handed saws while my brand spanking new M18 Fuel is a lefty. Was so annoyed the m18 didn't come with a guide bar I never noticed the motor orientation.
