Very rusty, and the blades badly corroded, this old cutter was made to fit into a Carpenter's Brace. It is stamped, as best I can read, " ....LECKMAN". Threads on the thumbscrews are 1/4" x 26 BSF or BSB, which might suggest that it's of British origin.
Thought I could chuck it in the lathe at low speed (back gear) and with a sheet of Viton 1.6 m/m pinned to a board mounted on the toolpost, cut some small seals & gaskets. The smallest radius would be about 11 - 12 m/m. Unfortunately the rounded part of the shank is not wholly circular so the point is not on centre, i.e. it wobbles, the cutters rotate off-centre. I suppose it would still cut a round seal, and that centre point is threaded in, so it could be changed, or left out.
I do have a modern circle cutter with two cutters, but it's designed mostly for wood. I need to make one, using a common scalpel, on an adjustable arm or two.
This new addiction - going to the flea market early Sunday morning, finding some old tool or treasure, hurry on to Church or home, to clean up and make it serviceable, put it away in the workshop hoping it might come in handy one day, then chafe away until next Sunday......
