Has anybody put in an underground cistern to catch rainwater? I’m having a septic system put in and while the guy is out there I was thinking of putting in a water storage tank underground.
I’ve got a mild preference for underground storage for aesthetic reasons and it will be more protected from damage and UV. The septic guy is pricing tanks, both plastic and concrete.
Is this a good idea? Plastic or concrete, and if I use concrete, is there something I ought to line it with?
Main use will be non-potable water for miscellaneous non-potable use like gardening, irrigation, and maybe firefighting if we get another wildfire. Though I guess it may turn into drinking water in an emergency.
Thanks in advance.
