Found it on Craigslist, but it's been in the family for over 70 years???

I've seen a few of those at the local flea markets. Guys are usually asking $200-$250 for them and they never sell. There was some dreamer trying to get $800 for one on Craigslist not too long ago.

The funniest part about the CL ad was that he claimed it was "appraised" at $2500.

Meatsis, I suspect the "Been in the family...." is the text from the CL ad. Seller is on crack, those things are neither a good anvil or a good vise. Might be worth $200 strictly as a collectors item, but I wouldn't pay it.

It takes every ounce of self control not to send an anonymous email to the seller. One, they obviously do not know what they are talking about and two, the fact that they are unwilling to provide any useful information tells me they aren't serious about selling it.

Nutjob, you need to trade names with this CL seller. He's the nutjob and you can be Kevin :)

454 you're right. I just found the CL ad. He's actually pretty close to me.

And it hasn't been in his family for 70 years. That vise/anvil was on CL in Eastern PA for a long time. I believe the original seller was asking $250 for it. Not long after the ad was taken down it showed up on my local Craigslist for $800. The funny part is he used the same picture from the original ad in PA.

This was my first thought. Have never seen one before so was curious about it.

Thanks for all the info!

That'd be a nice curio for the shop, but I'd only pay curio prices.

I've seen the anvil/vise combos that utilized a machinist style vise, but this one looks like it's just for pipe. That makes it even less useful. If I found one at a flea/garage sale for $20 I'd buy it but not for that price.
