I decided I want to buy a vintage made in the usa drill press to replace my HF bench top.

I have had little luck locating one in my area for a good price. This Delta has been listed for a while. I know it is expensive but is it a good model/vintage? I was told it has 5 speeds and the model number is 82C910 and it has a 3/4hp motor.

I know condition is really the main factor...

Look at the quill and spindle for slop, looseness, runnout, etc...

It appears it has most of the table lifter? I see a bottom ring and what appears to be the rack gear on the column. I thin I see the crank but that may be missing the crank handle, and the top ring is missing.

Five speeds leaves you probably short on the speeds for metal drilling.

It appears to be a large machine, but looks can be deceiving...

I have not looked at it yet. It is fairly far from me. I forgot to say it is 5.5' tall with a 1/2" chuck.

I would like to drill metal with it. I have read a little on here about adding a variable something or other...

What is he asking? It can be somewhat area dependent. For my area I'd think 75-100, assuming it's not got major issues.

Yes, that's a good old DP

No, it's certainly not worth $300.

Maybe, keep looking. Put the word out to friends and family. There's one gathering dust in a basement or garage.
