Like most of us I look at the local Craig Lists just for the hell of it, never knowing what will show up. I saw this add for a Sears machinist tool box, it looked in great shape. I was looking for a tool box for my basement and this one fit the bill. The nice lady said it was here Dad's old toolbox. It works fine, all the drawers slide nice and smooth, It came with three keys, I really like this box. I spent $40.00 for the box, a good price I think. I don't know what year it was made, I guess around the 1950's.

Looks real clean. I have a slightly smaller version, they were made by Kennedy as far as I know. Mine came with the same chart inside the top lid.

I got a score like that a few weeks ago myself. Local secondhand store had this:

No markings except for "JCPenney" silkscreened on the lid, but I suspected it was a "made by X for Y" kind of thing, and couldn't pass it up for $23.99. :D

Excellent condition except for some minor dents that I was able to push out by hand.

My main reason for getting this box is that it is not too deep. It does not take up much room on my bench. There are many of these around but most are made be Kennedy.

I have the exact same box...........with a brown "krinkle" paint finish. I bought it in 1971 (I was a teenager)

Is there any chance of finding a replacement drawer for one of these? I have one in the crinkle brown color with no logo and it is missing the second from bottom drawer. Also missing the front cover now that I think about it.

I would say $40 is rather heavy for a Kennedy, even in Cman disguise. I regularly see that box with its matching bottom for $50 on Craigs. Im currently trying to save its lil brother bc Im a rather cheap SOB and have no money in it, but honestly wouldnt spend money on it bc of Kennedy "quality."

Contrary to what Ive said, if its in nice shape and its what you want, its only $40. Who cares? At least you didnt pay the new sticker price.

I was fine with the $40.00 price tag. I have seen the top and bottom's but not in my area. It fits just right on my bench in my basement. It is not a heavy duty box but the drawers are small and are meant for small tools. I have my small screw drivers, watch tools and parts and small hardware in the drawers. There are better bargains out there I agree, but this box filled a need I had.

I have a Craftsman with the same sort of paint job (not as nice as yours, three drawer) and I was wondering if anyone could recommend how you would go about repainting one of these, the paint type and technique?

That's a Kennedy, I have the (almost identical) 10 drawer version sat in the garage.
