I've always wanted a Kennedy box. Picked up this set tonight for $75. I really didn't need any more toolboxes and even resisted calling for 2 days hoping it would disappear....but you know how it is. :eyecrazy:

Guy said he was an ex-engraver, moving to Vegas and was selling everything. Top box is a 520-918405. bottom is MC 22-517111. Said he bought them new, but I don't know how old they are. Wouldn't budge off the price.

Boxes are a little dirty, but in pretty decent shape. Felts are all there, not worn, need a good vacuuming though. No keys and the bottom lock was popped. Came with some assorted tools including NSK micrometer, Peacock Pic-Test(?), and Brown&Sharp Dial-Cal. I know nothing about machinist tools, so the working condition of them is unknown to me.

Looks like a nice setup, congrats. I've always wondered why kennedy made their middle boxes a non standard width. Really kinda screws you on bottom box options. :dunno:

tell me about not needing another toolbox:lol:
at 75 clams you did more than good.
I would've jumped on that in a hot minute.
the 20" box and matching mid box would've grabbed at that price, but w/ those tools in it its all money baby.

You did well. As he said, the boxes appear to be worth about that much and the tools are money in the bank.

I've got five of the #520 and never come across the MC22. FWIW, the retail is $200 and some eBay thief is asking $100 for a well-used MC22 right now.

You really had no choice _but_ to get it, esp. with those great tools in it. Don't blame yourself.

I have 8 or so Kennedy's of the same type. I don't believe that mid box is odd sized, I think it's wrong sized as a set.

For their machinist series they make a 20" top chest, 20" bottom chest, yet a 22" mid box. Then a 27" top chest a 27" bottom chest then a 28" mid box and a 29" mid box. Seems it would have better for them to make the mid boxes match the top like other manufactures do. Or maybe they really don't intend for machinist boxes to have a bottom box like mechanics boxes do. :dunno:

I wouldn't have passed that up.
You sure beat the selfsucker who posted similar here this week.

I was wondering if the middle box was the actual partner of the top box.

Besides some stock, stones, bits and other stuff here's the tools that were in the box. As mentioned, I have no idea as to the accuracy of the measuring devices. Not being..or intending to be a machinist, is there any reason or potential usage for me to keep them?

I guess that depends on what your career or hobbies are.
if youre never gonna build/rebuild a motor (car/motorcycle/RC car, ect.)
you may never need 'em. if you don't fancy yourself a machinist or have no want to be one you may never need those.
that dial indicator might be usefull to true a bicycle or motorcycle wheel.
the tap handle could be useful for a million things if you ever have to make or clean a threaded hole.

maybe you should just PM me. that way you could get a few bucks back from the tool box purchace and feel even better about spending $75. or maybe I could trade ya for some other stuff you could use:beer:

I have in storage, a matching top and mid box.
Previous owner screwed side brackets to them to hold them together.
From memory, it has three drawers and is called by a different name...plumber, woodman, something...but not machinist. Tools come out of storage the 25th.

Does it have the small rectangular drawer pulls on it?

Was going to call, but i don't need it.Anyone want it?,i could scoop it up for you.

Those are kinda neat, used to have one and kinda regret getting rid of it. Unfortunately it looks like the seller can't properly use a tape measure. :dunno:

Height- 33"
Width- 8.5" (box only), 10.5" (including side handle)
Depth- 13.5"

No.
There's a picture of it on my album page.
That's my $40 set of three that was stuffed with machinist tooling. I bet it had 300 new carbide replacement tips.
Second day, and late into it, at a yard sale.

Can you take a closer pic of it? Does it have the kennedy name written on it? I've never seen a exact matching 20" middle box by them. :dunno:

That was a good score, boxes plus tools!

And yeah :wtf: on the odd intermediate. The bottom roller will fit the std 520 fine. but the intermediate is an orphan. I have 2 (as well as a brother to that roller in Savanna)

I filled the top with wood to the lips on the roller and just let the intermediate overhang a bit, but man...

They still make them. I'm not sure what they sell or sold for but I kinda doubt they will sell that one fast for $100. They are a goofy size, most people want a 27" bottom, that is quite a bit smaller. Kennedy boxes have by far the lowest % resale value of any brand out. They aren't very popular as most people put the 520 on a bench.
