Gentlemen; that is a production lathe. You set it up for doing one part and then make that part by the hundreds. It has no leadscrew, no threading capabilities, no chucks, no compound. Not what you want for a general purpose lathe. I have two Sheldon engine lathes. (See them in my build thread.) Totally different machines.

Tell me about it..I dropped the ball on an atlas lathe last week..The guy only wanted $250 with a bunch of tooling..I'm still kicking myself for not climbing out of bed and driving up and giving the guy the money to hold it for me...I've been watching CL religiously for the last tow years for a lathe and a compressor. I was lucky and picked up an ingersol rand 60 gal for $350 with a new motor and pump.

While we're mourning lost deals, last week on craigslist was an old Atlas lathe with lots of tooling for $50. I saw the listing within the first half-hour, replied with my phone number, promising to be there ASAP with $100 cash. Someone had already gotten there and gotten it.

The one that I saw was posted at like 9 PM, and he still had it at like 9AM. I called him up and told me that 3 different guys were coming over to look at it. I even told him that I would give him $300, and I would send a deposit over paypal..The old timer didn't even know what paypal was. He called me back like a half hour later and told me it had been sold...Oh well..

Totally not mourning this deal. With the lack of a normal chuck plus the rear tooling, this would not be of much use in its current configuration. I posted this before I realized exactly what kind of lathe it was.

Now, I have recently passed on a couple of SnapOn boxes (top, middle, bottom $350 & an early 80's Pride Of America top and bottom $200), and a 1949 Westinghouse Coca Cola cooler for $150, because I just didnt have the energy at the moment to load up such large items..
