Have a conduit run that is long down hill run and thinking some sort of restraint at the top end would be good to keep the wire from slowly working its way down hill. It's 3/4 PVC conduit with 3 strands of #12. Other than just putting a knot what are my options?

You could run the wires into a box with "liquid tight" strain relief bushings and nuts to hold it from the top end. You might have to go into one box with bushing for conduit, than across in 3 separate wires to a bulkhead - or just box against another box - to the liquid tights and then back out the other side as 3 loose wires in conduit to final location. You could also just go into a bigger box with a bulkhead installed to hold the 3 strain reliefs and back out the other side.

Is this really something that needs to be accounted for? What about long (tall) vertical runs?

If there is enough height in the box (or get a larger one) consider adding a threaded coupling on the end of the conduit. Then find a 3/4" threaded cable gland for small diameter cable and drill out insert for your need. Install on to coupling.

3/4" really limits the choices.

That would be pretty easy to do. We deal a little with small cable glands at work - mostly 1/2". I think I can find something like that.
