Clamp On Vise

I stumbled upon a Yost Vise Made in USA for $60 2.5" and was wondering what the current take is. I see Irwin's $20 model on Amazon 3" and am not sure which one would suffice. Intended for very light duty work.

I'm still on the search for a 6" USA-made Vise which I can permanently affix to the work bench.

Otherwise, for minute repairs, a light duty vise will do.

I think the price is a bit high for what it is. I would suggest going up to about $25, as I see them come up fairly frequently. Great to have as a temporary extra set of hands, but agree that I haven't seen almost any I would call "heavy-duty". And if I did, I wouldn't trust it to a clamp on (or want to move it for that matter).

Might as well pickup a proper bench vise (4" or so, regardless of COO) and bolt into something sturdy and carry along for portability.

I just noticed there is no grip on the clamp on vises.

I use a clamp on vise on my main bench for working on locks.
I have a big old 4" vise on my other bench for drilling, cutting, etc.

depends on what you consider "light duty work." I've had several small clamp on vises, and they all seem to clamp to the table better than they clamp to the work piece. Better to just clamp your work in a lock jaw plier then clamp that in your bench vise. The only small vise I had that really held on to small stuff was this small Record with soft plastic jaws, mounted to a block of wood. You can find these on occasion for around $10.

I recently found a 3" Woden clamp on bench vise from the UK recently.

I am pretty pleased with the quality. Very tight vise and has the orginal paint. I am not sure what I will do with it, but it is old world quality.
