Clamp Storage?

Any advice on how to store a wide variety of clamps? Some are wood working, and others metal work. I've finally gotten off my dead **** and am reorganizing my garage thanks to the great advice found on GJ.
Hope you guys can help me out!

In the wood shop I usually hang the clamps from the top plate of the wall. It's bare stud walls so that makes it easy. In the garage I've got several metal clamps that I clamp on one of the shelf cabinets.

I store my bigger ones on L-brackets screwed to a piece of plywood.

I also have some on the wall behind my fold-down welding table.

At first look I thought you had the picture turned 90 degrees, but then I realized you have a router table hanging on your wall

It's funny you say that. I saw the wrenches and didn't even notice the router table.

The smaller ones are cheap and from Harbor Freight. But the bigger ones are mostly Wiltons -- all bought second-hand, usually on ebay.

Jack, you really need to stop. I mean really must you insult me with EVERY single post? I mean really man, I was content to have the 30-40 clamps I have just sitting in a rubbermaid tub on my shelf, but then you come along and have to show me the error of my ways. In all honesty really, have you been checked for OCD or anything?? Just like always Jack Awesome! no other way to describe your place. Keith

The smaller C-clamps, 2,3,4 inch ones are sitting in a drawe in the side box. The spring clamps are clipped on to something above the bench.

The pipe clamps, well, right now, they are leaned against the wall, awaiting some type of storage system. . . .. winter project.

I honestly can't afford the wall space a clamp rack would take up. I have a dead corner and the long pipe and bar clamps live there standing on end. Not pretty as some would like, but I know where they are. C-clamps live in a drawer. My perfect garage would be lots of drawers.

All of mine are clamped to the legs of my workbench. My workbench legs are made of 4x4's and are about 3 1/2 feet tall, so they just line they workbench top to bottom on each leg. Not great, can be a pain, but gets the job done.

I've got most of my clamps in one of my 3-inch high Lista drawers (interior dimensions of 42 x 24). 4' and 6' bar clamps are stored horizontally on some wire shelving.

At the end of the day, they're clamps, so you can hang 'em or clamp 'em just about anywhere. The reason I built the cart... sometimes I forgot where I hung 'em

I had some room under some shelves, so I took some leftover 1/4" pipe and some eyebolts and made a hanger under there. I used woodworkers "T-Nuts" blind nuts with the flange and teeth inserted from the top of the shelf to keep interference with the items on the shelf to a minimum.

I bought another set of Pony clamps the other day. That puts me up to 3 pairs of pipe clamps. I know there will be more bought inthe future, so i need to figure something out this winter for some clamp storage.

I need to do something like DaWoodster did. I have clamps everywhere.
There are some on this mobile cart, both holding things to the cart, and hanging on the cart handle:

And there are the ones on my shelf that ran out of room for clamps:

And somehow, overflow started getting hung on this roof rack, since it was there . . .

And there are the pony clamps leaning in a corner:

And there are at least a dozen in my mobile toolbox, clamped in the utility trailer, or in the camper shell on the truck.

There are some great ideas for clamp storage here. For Christmas I received 8 quick clamps and just put together 4 pony pipe clamps. I know this isn't a lot but I've gone from no clamps to a pile that's messing up the storage cabinet of my bench. Time to make some storage racks with the spare wood I've got sitting around.

I have a 24" piece of 1/4" round bar welded between the legs of my workbench/welding table. I just han them on there.

is that a re-purposed cabinet that you put pegboard in? I plan on building some cabinets for pegboard. I love the convenience of pegboard, but hate dusting my tools all the time. If repurposed, where did you get it? If built, addaboy!

yes reporposed, i found at a swap meet, but have since seen several on ebay, i need another to match, so far i keep seeing blue not red. i may just buy 2 blue ones and sell the red one, since i have several other blue cabinets.

this one has a Napa tag on it. thier was already a steel flange in the cabinet, so i did not need to do much to fit the peg board. it just slid right in. i will try to do a pic of the flange.

That is interesting. Is it just a 2x4 or a 2x6 with 2x4 feet? I wouldn't have thought of the notches because it kinda limits adding clamps later....I suppose. But it does look neat and since clemaps are typically long you can mount it high on the wall.

I built it a few months ago. IIRC, it's a 2x6 and 2x4 feet. I believe I used a 2x6 to give it some backbone strength with the notches. I figured 10 clamps would do me fine. I can always make another one and hang it on another section of wall. This one basically fit an empty spot on the wall.

Anybody buying pipe clamps should consider the Rockler "Sure Foot" clamps. They are much better, although a bit more expensive than Pony clamps.

Pony pipe clamp storage
hi, could never decide on how I wanted to store the 3/4" pony pipe clamps. Used a recycled piece of 4" pipe with flange, weld plate to inside flange bottom, Dropped 3/4" threaded rod into flange holes and weld, cut 1/4"x2" flat stock 3/4" wide and welded to 1" pipe coupling and then weld to 4" pipe. With inside plate on bottom I store my bar clamps inside the 4" pipe.I should have done this years ago. Takes up very little space and you can spot the length of each clamp. See this post.

That picture is from a while back. Now I have seven. Two 6"-ers (one wire, one grinding wheel), four 4-1/2"-ers (one wire, one grinding wheel, one cutting disc, one flap disc) and one 9" with a grinding wheel on it.

I got all of them second-hand. I guess I don't like changing wheels out while I'm working on something.

i am the same way, i have 4 4.5" ones too with the exact same setup. so much easier then changing out attachments

Me too on grinders. I got 6 small and 2 Milwaukee 7-9" . The Milwaukee are awesome with cup wheels but will wear you out.
Most C- clamps in HF bottom roller cabinet. Deep drawers are great for that .I have some of the Kant Twist clamps too. Got separate drawer for those and vise grips. Could not beat the price when I bought the cabinet. Cheap storage!
