I owned a Classic 96 for a while before I sold it. It was a great box.

Buuuut, if I had to do it over again, id get the HF.

Face it, youre not gonna be moving it around the shop very much, so quality wheels arent a HUGE deal.

It has a very good amount of storage. And a nice drawer layout.

Accessories are far cheaper. What a side locker or a stack of drawers to hang off the side? CHEAP.

Whats that? Your box spontaneously exploded? Buy a second one and still pay less.

I really wish I went the HF route before throwing myself at the mercy of Snap On credit

home use, or for "pro" use?

for home use, i'd save the extra money, and buy the HF.

for a working box, i'd probably take the SO, followed by the HF

mac would be my last choice for either use...

I'd go SO simply because its the biggest of the boxes. Also if the time comes to sell it, you'll get the most reselling it. If it's solely for home use and you never see yourself outgrowing it, then I would give some consideration to the HF, bet personally still probably go SO.

Just a few months ago I sold a used, probably 8.5/9 out of 10 condition Classic 96 for almost $1,000 more than they're asking for that one. If you bought the SO, I suspect you could easily get all your money back later and maybe even make a little.

For the prices listed. The Snap On hands down. It's also the biggest of the 3. I had a Mac 50" tech 1000. It was a great box. Still looked almost new when I sold it 10 years later. If it had been the the 66" I would still have it.

I hate the side to side play of HF box's drawers

I thought I was the only one who noticed that. With all the praise these boxes get I wasn't expecting that when I looked at them. The 56 and 72 are worse than the 44 and 26. It was actually pretty bad.

which classic 96? there's several variations...i have a kra2423 with a side cab and i like the hell out of it, would take it over an hf rig any day, never seen a mac box in person, so no comment, but that is a comment in a way if you think about it...

my next will be a kra 1033...it's a triple bay with TWO FULL LENGTH DRAWERS

I realize its not on the list but strictlytoolboxes has a free stainless top promo on their 72 inch, 24 deep, 16 drawer Tool Vault right at $2000. They do hit you pretty hard to upgrade to spring loaded casters. I have the smaller version with top cab. I won't tell you its twice as good as the HF box but it is definitely a step up.

If the used boxes you are finding are really in great condition, I'd probably grab one of them. If not or you like being the first owner then I'd at least consider the Tool Vault.
