Taken from the rules of another forum im a part of:

You must have accumulated at least 50 posts or have been registered with PerformanceTrucks.Net for 6 months to post a thread in the classifieds section. This is an effort to curb scamming and help protect our members.

Makes perfect sense. :dunno:

This gets suggested every month or so. The owner evidently has no intention of implementing this.

My question is how much scamming happens here from new members? I have bougt from and sold to new members and have not been burned as of yet.

Do we have a problem here?

Purchases two or three times already and no problems yet.

I feel pretty safe buying on this forum, and even more safe using paypal.

I actually joined here because of the classifieds as I needed stuff. And having been a moderator on other forums I can attest that even minimum post counts do not always keep the riff raff out. All you wind up with is a bunch of newbies going post-happy do they can hock their wares.

I think everyone is talking about the new members that show up in classifieds on day one. It'll be their very fist post, trying to sell something. They have no other intentions on this site except to sell their stuff on a " tool junkie" site.

Although, all the transactions I've had with members on the lower post count, have been fine as well! But I do believe a minimum 20-50 post isn't a terrible idea either.

How many times have we seen a new thread about a toolbox for sale? They'll have zero pictures, 1 post, no info, and a relatively hostile when we call them on the way they conducted themselves.

What's the problem with someone joining to try and sell something? As far as newbe ad content, there are lots of people on this site that can't post a decently laid out ad, no matter how long they've been here. If questions about an ad were phrased politely, without discussion, there wouldn't be any "hostility".

The IOWADUD thread is a good example. Over 20 posts with name calling and other insults. Why would anyone that is really interested in helping to make the classifieds better even post in that thread? Does posting actually accomplish anything other than continual bumping of the ad? I don't think so. Leave it alone and it will go away. Keep posting with discussion and it just stays around.

Honestly, the biggest problem with the classifieds is the long term members that don't read the rules and post inappropriate comments. It's gotten so bad, I'm close to removing comments entirely from the classifieds section.

In all fairness, there are a lot of "discussion" posts made by members that have been here 12-14 months or less.
