Hi all. This is my second post, the first being in the intro pages.
Anyways, I need some more floor space and am selling off some welders and such left over from my business to make more floor space.
My question is in regards to my 115v Clausing 1688 drill press....I don't really know what it's worth. It's in excellent condition and has a tapered spindle with a chuck. I also have the Manual for it.
Runs great with no bugs, squeals or other such noise, shows only normal wear and runs smooth as my buff motor.
Been down the fleabay/craigslist road already with no 1688's showing, so I turn to you guys for some help.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what the specs are on that drill press but I bought an Enco 126-2670 this Spring for just under $500. The Enco is a 1.5hp 3 phase machine with 300-2000rpm infinite adjustment. It's the same machine as the overpriced one in this eBay ad except mine isn't rusty.

The guy has the weight wrong in his eBay ad too, it's a 750lbs machine. Your Clausing looks like it might have similar specs. You might try listing on craigslist for $500, maybe $600, but me personally I would list as $500 and don't mention anything about OBO.

thats a darn nice lookin machine are you just trying to find out the value of it or do you want to sell it from looking at your garage the drill press fits it good, being a clausing i think you could get $250 and up easily depending on where you are at that looks pretty clean

Thanks, tedsters.
I have 3 drill presses at the moment plus a couple of stick welders that I want to move. Have no need for them now.
The other press is an old Walker-Turner bench model on a home made floor stand. It needs a motor and chuck but everything else seems to be there. They just don't make tools like these anymore.
Anyway, I'm really looking for a true value so I don't end up 'giving' it away.
I rarely hold out for top dollar (I usually price things to move) but I also don't want to feel foolish if it's actually worth a good deal more.
Thanks for your help and interest.

First off that is the common clausing 15" VS (variable speed) drill press, with standard table. Not many folks follow the clausing #'s because there are quite a few of them, they usually just get referred to by their swing. So when you search, search for clausing 15" drill press.

Value/Price is going to be dependent on condition of the machine and your local market. The machine does look to be in good condition. Can you take an up close pic of the table? Kinda hard to see, but to me it does look like there is an arc of holes on the table from operator error (not saying you). Assuming it runs good and the VS system works like it should (very expensive to repair), belt is in good condition and minimal run out on the spindle.

Your probably looking at ~$250 on the low end up to ~$500, but you will probably be waiting for quite some time. The problem being is that most folks looking for a used drill press are looking to save money. Although clausing is a very good brand, it isn't well known to the masses so you will probably have a hard time finding a local CL DIYer willing to shell out large amounts of cash for a used drill press. Ebay may yeild a bit more, but with an item that large, you are probably limited to local pickup, which I can't imagine being much more audience than the local CL.

In the end, you really don't know until you test the market. Remember you can always drop your price, but it is pretty hard to increase it once set.

Thanks zkling. Good to have that extra info and also know what I actually have. I agree that regular CL'ers rarely look to find much more than cheap prices. Good thing I have a couple of interested parties in my pocket. Gonna give em a good deal, just didn't want to let anyone steal it, as it were.
Everything is nice and tight, and you did indeed spot the gouged table - just around the center though, as usual.
This unit came from a school district maintenance shop where it got little use and what abuse it got is limited to the table.
Thanks so much for your help.

No prob man  School shop, so that explains the red switch cover plate. Looks like you have a really nice shop. Got any full on pics of that truck? :D

Here ya go - never liked tootin' my own horn but I also own the yellow '48 Deluxe Cpe. It belonged to a very close friend lost to cancer and I'm proud to have it in my garage.
Love those hot rods...they're never finished so there's something I can be doing.
Thanks again for the info and your interest in the pickup.
