Found the drill press of my dreams a month or so ago.... Clausing 1766 variable speed. Am slowly in the process of getting it into semi good working order with tolerable runout and a motor that doesn't smoke itself. Motor has already been replaced with a 1140 RPM unit after realizing a loose motor rotor was jamming itself onto the centrifugal switch. Trying to address the bearings right now which has been an iterative process.
An currently stuck on the spindle and quill assembly (have the morse taper number 2 on the left in case it matters). It took me a while to notice that Clausing was nice enough to put a hole to loosen the 1/4 set screws on the collar. The hole was caked with grease. Was hoping the collar would be nice enough to fall off and the whole thing would disassemble itself. Instead am realizing the whole thing is pressed together like everything else. Am I correct that pressing spindle down is the way to go? A few taps of the hammer went nowhere and the hydraulic press is looking like the next best option. Am a bit nervous as I hear the spindles and parts in general from Clausing are fall out of your seat expensive.

Someone was nice enough to post the entire manual here for reference:
