Clausing 1860 Drill Press Motor Size

Been thinking about replacing a 3/4hp old Westinghouse motor on a Clausing 1860 drill press. Trying to decide on 3/4 or 1 hp 115v motor, drilling steel, never change it out of low speed. How would well would a Baldor L1307M or L1310M work on this old press?

seems like a good fit. Assuming the frame and shaft fits, the critical criteria is the RPM, which appears you got the right one. For 120/240 1ph motor, you just have the 1800rpm or 3600rpm. The 1800rpm will yield higher torque than the 3600rpm @ #HP.

Personally I would go with the 1140 rpm (el11308) if you drill mostly metal. But honestly for the same price you could find a new 3 phase motor and vfd. This is the route I went. I found a new in box baldor 3/4hp 3ph on eBay for $60 then another $150 for a vfd and now I have infinitely variable speed on my drill press

What are you expecting to gain from going from one 3/4HP motor to another 3/4HP motor?

Looks like someone was afraid to mess with the allen screws to adjust the belt, so they just bent the motor cradle to adjust it. Plan on putting a switch and cord on it anyway since the cord on it is badly cracked. Kicking around the ideal of just going ahead and putting a new motor on while into it, the old motor is a little noisy and the shaft has got some up and down play. I will be on keeping it 115v and single phase, a motor around 1140 rpm would be nice but pricey. The old drill press seems to be in very good shape except for the table, it's been drilled a lot into the table.

I have been upgrading my nice but older Delta DP lately. While I agree a 3phVFD would be a great upgrade, a simple upgraded motor swap might make the most sense.

Finding a decent used 1hp/1850 or 1140rpm motor shouldnt be to hard.
