How are these drill presses, maybe a Bridgeport mill would be a better choice! I have a Clausing 2215 with power down feed. Seller is asking $3K which is too much for me, for that price I'd look for a BP.

It is a mill, not a drill press, they just have a drill chuck in the spindle. They are a good small-medium size mill, popular for small shops. Not a Bridgeport, much lighter weight (weighs 1/4 to 1/3 of a small BP), more comparable to something like a Precision Matthews PM25.

If you have the room for a Bridgeport, it is hard to go wrong with that choice. You will get a lot more mill for your money. I say that as an owner of a Clausing mill.
If you don't have the room, or simply don't want to deal with a mill that big, these Clausing mills are very nice if not abused.

The typical price on these is $2000-2500 in good shape, less if it has issues. $3000 is higher than I'm used to seeing, but prices are going up on everything. As always condition and included tooling is a major factor.

Looks like this one has the optional column riser with is desirable, adds an additional 4" under the spindle.

The one area where the Clausing/Johansen shines is portability and space utilization; it can be brought down stairs and will fit in a basement workshop. Moving a Bridgeport is a serious operation and they require more floor space and head room. I've moved my Clausing by myself.

That's a nice small mill. I recall they are either Morse #2 or Brown and Sharp taper spindles, depending on model.

The Clausing mills often sell for between $2000 and $3000 at auctions in the northeast.

I would love one of these mills. I missed one and will always regret it. If anyone has one for sale let me know.
