I picked up this big feller for $100 today.












I had been searching CL Tools for ever for a good old drill press and had a few hits but nothing good. I then decided to search all CL and a hit came up for a garage sale that already passed. I emailed asking if they still had the dp. They responded a few days later and said yes and that it was $100. At that time I was unsure of what brand it was or if anything was wrong. The po was very vague an not answering any questions.

After back and forth emails, I went and looked at it. When I saw what it was my eyes damn near popped out of my head. They actually had a price sticker from the garage sale on and priced at $75! When we plugged it in it just hummed. My dad was telling me to leave it. I tried at $60 figuring if they asked for 75(on the sticker) and all it was doing was humming they may go for it. They didn't. $80, no. Ok, Ill do $100.
When we got home, We plugged it in and when it started humming I gave the chuck a spin and it took off and quietly.
I plan to degrease and paint it and enjoy. I think I did ok.

Definite you **** though I'm having a hard time with your whole explanation of the tag. Since when do broken mismarked tools go up in price? :headscrat

Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the hum. It was probably just happy to be getting a new home (and maybe a new start capacitor?)

Yep, even at $100 you stole that puppy. Heck, even if it was $200... Ain't it nice when Dad is wrong? :evil:

I'm assuming a 5" stroke, what is the spindle to column distance?

They had it marked $75 for the garage sale they had. I tried to get it for below that since it "wasn't working," but they were not budging. The guy was basically yelling from another room at the lady I was dealing with "its a $500 drill press, its $100." She was yelling back."you need to change your price on your sticker then." It was sort of funny, but I wasn't leaving it on the table.

I've never felt so good be told I ****...Thank You ; )

There is a "fly switch" inside the motor that's part of the capacitor start circuit. If the motor has openings (not TEFC) first try blowing the motor out with compressed air. If no luck with that, you will likely need to replace the switch.or the capacitor. Most likely the switch.

From the column to the center of the spindle is 7.5". Funny thing is after spending a lot of time on here, I find dad to wrong more often then I used to:D

I am building a workbench right now that I needed a drill press to preferably complete. So, after I finish that, the press will get a minor restoration.
