As long as the reeves drive isn't f'ed, yes. Otherwise it becomes a project and then some.

I was assuming taking all the broken parts to a machine shop for repair.

Got it! Will post more details tomorrow. I know it's a 3/4 HP motor. It runs smooth, quiet and the speed adjustment works too.

It still in the truck. It's actually a bit bigger in person than it appeared in photo.

He also had this craftsman belt/disc sander for $75...

It's a model 1764

It has a Howell International 3/4 HP 1725 rpm motor 110/220V

It's missing the top cover, which I didn't realize until I got home but it's not a big deal. Everything else is nice and tight, all knobs and moving pieces are free and not rusted. I'm pretty happy with it, my back however not so much.

I feel stupid for asking because it's probably a simple answer...

What's the knob for on the left side?

Oh, you'll find a use for it soon as you pass it up :lol_hitti

I'm already having doubts about not buying it and you're not helping the matter.

I do zero woodwork. I really don't like wood at all. Im sure there could be some metalworking use for it, but I've never really had a need.

Put a metal sanding belt and disc on it and use it to grind welds, flatten tubing/angle iron/flat bar/round stock etc to weld. You NEED that thing man. I have one but don't have the right top plate on the pole base, mine is made of wood and metal but supports it fine for now. $75 is the going price for for a grinder stand, the sander would be free... :wtf:

:rocker: If you ever get the chance to check out the part number cast into that stand top plate, please post it up. I am looking for that piece.

Also, the table is convertible to the disc side as well so you can use it either way. You will LOVE that machine, I used mine Friday on some parts that would have taken forever with any of my other methods to smooth but took literally seconds with this machine.

Scratch that part number request, that looks like the older base plate that's smaller than mine. I think mine is roughly 8x16, that one looks like the smaller base that I have a top plate for. Could you post a rough dimension of the sander base when you get time?

Can you tell me what these are for? I'm guessing pulleys?

They were stacked on a post behind the belt

Thanks LX, that is the smaller base plate model, same belt/disc size sander though and for that price, YOU ****!

My search for the larger pole mount plate model continues...

You did good on both units. You can thank us later after you have used them for a while. You got a deal on both pieces. I would have bought them in a heartbeat just for resale or trading purposes. Use the belt sander for either metal or wood, but not both. Fire starter when you have sanded wood and immediately switch to metal. I have one like yours for wood, and an old school Powermatic for metal.

Those are pulley sheaves, they're meant to go together - that's where the Clausing gets it's adjustable speeds from. The two halves are pressed together by a lever actuated by the speed adjustment on the front. Also called a Reeves Drive. The closer the two halves, the bigger the effective diameter of the pulley.

Possibly a variable speed pulley setup, like a home made Reeves drive?

Edit, Burgerkong beat me to it.

So likely they're not even for this belt sander.

Are they even for the Clausing? The pulleys that are on it now are a lot bigger.

I doubt they are for the Clausing. They probably got stashed near the belt sander and someone forgot about them. I would just stash em somewhere out of the way on the odd chance that you need them some day.
