Clean up old Snap On boxes

I have a KRA 59A top and a KRA 433 bottom with a side cabinet that I bought new off the truck in the 1970 - 71 time frame. In the 80s I bought a new box and retired the old set to my garage. I'm thinking of quitting full time work and bring the newer boxes home. In order to make space and have a bench in my office, I've been thinking of cleaning up the KRA 433 (it has an oak top I made out of truck flooring) and moving it in the house as a piece of furniture.

Here's the point I'm trying to. The paint is getting chalky and thin. What is the best procedure to clean and polish up it up without destroying the finish? I don't mind the wear marks and few dings and don't think I want to refinish it.

Thanks

I would go after it will a mild automotive rubbing compound. After that hit it with polishing compound then a good paste wax. Should make it look a bit more presentable. :)

I would stay away from compound and try a good (maguire/mothers) cleaner wax. Get a pack of those round microfiber applicators, a handful of micrfiber rags, roll it in front of the lazyboy, turn on the game and go to town. The cleaner wax is mild enough to not cause damage but with some elbow grease will clean up old paint nicely.

Don't use simple green. I cleaned my box with it once and when I pulled the rag off after the first pass, it was all red.
