Any of you have a good and fast way to clean the corrosion off aluminum castings like carbs and the like? Looking for a way to chemicaly clean them. Tried mild acid, oven cleaner, CLR and Sam's cola. The cola did the best but not as good as I'm looking for. Rather not have to use Muriatic acid because it leaves a undesirable **** on the surface that has to be scrubbed off, and work is what I'm trying to eliminate

If it is just a typically dirty carb. then I would suspect a commercial carb. cleaner might be a good choice. If it's actually corrosion then carb cleaner won't do much and you'll likely have to look into some type of mechanical cleaning. Blast cabinets are probably the easiest way.

It's not gunk and varnish, it's whire corrosion in areas where it is not reachable by wire brushes and emory cloth. My blast cabinents are down for a move to a new shop so I can't blast them. That's why I looking for a chemical means

You could go to a place that sells parts & supplies for commercial trucks and look for an aluminum cleaner spray. The truckers use it to remove the oxidization on wheels and trailer aluminum. I have used it for cleaning aluminum prior to welding and it works pretty well, especially in concentrated form.

The white corrosion you are referring to is typically a Zinc oxide. Most carbs are not made out of aluminum but out of zinc.

The white powder (corrosion) you see is from contact with moisture.

The only way to make sure the corrosion doesn't return is to have the carbs recolored with a dichromate coloring.

The dichromate acts as a barrier for the zinc and protects the surface.

I worked at one time for Holley Carburetor and know carbs. LOL!

I have accumulated a lot of trivia over the last 33 years of engineering that helps people on occasion, mostly racers.

I dont know about carbs, but i do know some chemistry

Dichromate in solid form is usually a salt, like potassium dichromate for example, which is pretty common

In water solution it's alkaline
