cleaning levels

I just got some used levels and want to know what i can use to clean them? They are aluminum and would like to clean them and the plastic to see the level and has a tape measurements on the top. I am going to use water 1st but what else? thanks

Add mild diswashing soap to the water works really good.
I find metal polish from a tube works incredibly well on clear plastic / acrylic. I'd be very careful on removing the plastic parts they tend to become brittle. Wenol and MAAS are two brands ive had experience with "cleaning clear plastic or glass with.

Depends on whats on them. WD40 or windex might work. Windex works great on plastics.
