So I bought one of the new 46" Milwaukee Tool Chests with the red textured powdercoat finish. Not sure what is safe to spray on it. Don't want red on my rag I know that!

The manual states:

Use a glass cleaner to clean and maintain all surfaces of powder coating.

Then about 2 sentences later, in the same paragraph, it states:

Use only mild soap and a damp cloth to clean your chest / cabinet since certain cleaning agents and solvents are harmful including gasoline, turpentine, lacquer thinner, chlorinated cleaning solvents, AMMONIA and household detergents containing AMMONIA.
Sooo use glass cleaner but don't use ammonia. Right, got it. :dunno:

So to an actual owner of said Milwaukee box out there - what have you sprayed on and wiped off successfully?

Well I went ahead and did what I wanted too in the first place. Wet a rag with WD40 and wiped her down. Gives a nice sheen, no color came off. 48 hours later all is well.

I do what I want! ; )

PM,

I've always used WD40 and paper towels to clean my painted tool chests.

I've never seen a trace of paint on the paper towels when wiping down the cabinets. The only thing that comes off on the paper towels is dust, grime, and the WD40.

I think it's a pretty safe product, but it does contain solvents. Just to be safe though, spray it on and wipe it off immediately. You should have no problems.
