Cleaning mini split

I have 3 DAikin mini's 2 9K and a 12k, 15 series, 4 years old. I have disassembled them and cleaned blower wheel outside, comes out squeky clean with a bleach soap solution, brush and hose. Full text and picture did not post? edit

This time I used a spray foam coil cleaner and Simple Green all purpose full strength. I wet the blower wheel with a garden sprayer and brushed on the simple green and put the spray foam on the dry side. I saw no difference in cleaning between the SG and coil cleaner so finished up with SG.

I soaked the blower wheel with the SG and let it set about an hour then agitated the crud with a stiff paint brush for about 1/2 hour. Then rinsed off with the garden sprayer. The picture shows the residue left on the blower wheel which is about 10% of what I started with. Any suggestions on doing a better job or is this the best I can expect?

Be careful of the solutions used on the aluminum parts. Both bleach and Simple Green are caustic and will etch the aluminum resulting in "rough" surfaces which will attract more grime. Rinse generously. Adding tablets to the drain pan will keep odors down.

Just to add, even mildly basic solutions etch aluminium, which would not be noticable during a cleaning but over years it becomes notable, Best to get a PH neutral cleaner, wood floor cleaners generally are advertised a PH neutral. A PH neutral cleaner will require more work in cleaning but that is better than etched aluminum which attract dirt more readily.

Are you removing the wheel? We removed the wheel on my friend's Mitsubishi to clean, and was pretty easy to get it completely spotless with a towel, some 409 and a garden hose. It wasn't difficult at all to get the wheel out, maybe 10 minutes? Could definitely get it down to 5 minutes or less.

Use only evaporator coil cleaner then flush the.coil with straight water and the condensate will help wash any residual cleaner away. I don't believe in condenser coil cleaner unless coil is oily. Just dirt just water. Commercial cleaners leave the coil shiny where does the shine come from washing the aluminum corrosion off to just start more at a faster pace. I've seen coils that have been cleaned 5-6 times fins have zero strength.

Was curious of the PH values of advertised coil cleaners. Almost all have a PH of neutral or close to it, which is good, only one of about 8 cleaners had a very high PH, 12-13, containing sodium Metasilicate . Best to check any cleaner's SDS sheet for chemical compounds.

Been web surfing coil cleaners. Desolve appears in vidoes to clean what I have on my bower wheel. I have tried Calgon and Simple Green coil cleaner and not impressed with either of them. Calgon spray and SG liquid.
