Cleaning out the classifieds

A recent post in the classifieds got my attention. Rickster posted "Make an offer on these old for sale posts". I checked out his tools and thought why are there 69 pages with 1,381 threads with 6,858 posts?

My suggestion is to wipe clean the classifieds every so often. Do we really need an archive of For Sale or Wanted posts that most people even the seller or the wantee has forgotten about? Additionally, how about making a rule that a classified ad cannot be posted by a new member until let's say 25 posts.

Okay, maybe wiping it clean is too much but do we need posts from 2005 in the classifieds? Just a thought.

I think if it is possible to automatically delete them after... say... three months - that should give more than enough time to gauge interest. If it doesn't sell, post another ad just like craigslist.

I think 30 days would suffice...either the item sells, or it doesn't.

Definitely. Give me a few weeks to get completely acquainted with everything here, then I'll do some 'housekeeping' on the classifieds.

You know, a lot of people like to look in the classifieds to see what prices things are going for. It would be nice to have about a year or so back left alone for reference purposes, and so you can ask specific people about things they have had and sold. I don't mean that 2005 is necessary, but about a year or so should keep anyone from complaining either way.

Because it had been so long since they had been cleaned out, I deleted everything that was over 150 days old. Going forward, I won't always do that. I'll be managing them a lot closer now so there won't be a need for a mass clean out...

Need to have it set to auto clean out if no response to the post in say 30 or 60 days. Also saves online storage space etc.
