cleaning racedeck?

My racedeck floor looks like a mess after all the oil and coolant spills there has been on it, i tried to just use a mop before and it really didn't work that great or i had to change the bucket every 10 sq/ft. So i decided to try to hose down the floor but it seems like dirt and grime would come up through the edges and leave a nasty deposit.

What are you tricks to clean your floor for those who use the floor as a mechanic type of utility?

Heavy degreaser. Zep, Purple Power, Awesome - dump right on the worst spots, hot water mixed with degreaser and a deck brush. It works best if/when you can take the garden hose to the floor and get rid of all the residue. Deposits on the edges happen, but hosing things clean helps.

I'd really like to get a commercial floor scrubber/vac. We tried the little steam cleaner from the house, but the brushes on it just don't cut it.

Hi from the UK chickenhauler.

Commercial floor scrubbers will do the job for you. In the UK we spot hire them, and there are contractors that will come out and do a one time clean for you. The advantage of a floor scrubber is that it collects the waste cleaning fluid so residue is not an issue.

hmm i guess i'll try to see if i can rent such a machine, scrubbing the garage with a brush is one pita because of it's size.

I'll try to find some heavy degreaser, been working with Lestoy and a mop but doesn't seem to be enough.

So what would anyone use for just normal dirt and dust? I've tried a few things but, they don't seem to work. Seems it dries dusty/dirty. I guess I need a heavier duty mop maybe?

I just mopped my 2 year old racedeck floor with simple green/water mix. It brought the finish back to like-new condition. I only had oil stains and dust/dirt, though.

I occasionally use the swiffer sweeper for the dust.

We keep ours swept, wipe up oil/grease/paint/etc. as we drop it, & clean with a household steam mop occasionally. I imagine the Simple Green solution would help with stains.

I have cleaned up fluids, grease, etc., as I go. So far, nearly 2 yr., no problem.

As to dust, dirt, junk from road salt/snowmelt/mud, I sweep, then vacuum with a shop vac, then sometimes take a sponge and warm water/cleaner and scrub a bit in a few areas, then rinse.

Sounds like a lot of work, but I don't spend any more total time on it that I did with bare concrete floor. I am also not at all **** about the floor being clean, so I don't always get to the job for a while. Thus far, nothing has failed to come clean.

I use paper under drippers, and use Dawn dish washing for when it leaks thru.
