So the previous homeowner put one of those fake stone facings on my fireplace. Under that is some kind of cement board which I think has been mortared to underling brick. Which I think is also a facing over cinderblock. I was considering options on redoing the hideous surround and wondered. How hard is it to clean up mortar from that old brick facing? I’ve got air tools and grinders to help with the work. Was considering ripping off the stone facing and either taking a grinder or a wire wheel to the old facing to clean it up. Suggestions?
I sort of hate that there are two facings built up over the fireplace - and painted brick can loom pretty good these days.
