As usual you've never stopped moving Andy, what you've done to make that house a reality is beyond words. I look forward to seeing you and it again in the not to distant future.

JB
Thanks, JB! It really is turning out better than we expected. Still home built but ok. The ceiling i the "great room" is 20 ft. Ok, 19'10-1/2":mad:IGJX8193.JPG
Flat LED lights cost $7 each, so for a high ceiling I put in a constellation, with a dimmer. It's working ok.

@oldironfarmer - Andy, what jig are you using for the shelf pin holes? Curious as I have to drill 3 columns in two 8' pieces. That's a bit over 300 holes.

I have the Rockler single row jig (with their matching 5mm bit) which is what I'll use but just curious how you did yours.

Thanks.

I think standard shelving has the holes 1-1/4" on center. I'm kind of low tech, I cut a strip out of pegboard (1" centers) and mark the rows with start and stop I want to use. 5mm actually works ok in the 1/4" holes on the first kitchen I did that way. These are 1/4" holes for 1/4" pins. I've drilled over 1,000 holes in the same section of pegboard. It's getting a little sloppy. Homemade drill collar because I'm cheap.IMG_0251.JPG

How'd you get that picture? Three hands? I can't hold my phone in my mouth and take a picture.
Windows clipping tool. One hand, one mouse - clicky, clicky...

I always use my laptop for GJ. Phone is too tiny.
I go thru the "New Posts" link and open a tab for each thread I want to see. Then, I work my way thru the tabs.

240# claw foot tub dated 1921. Up fifteen steps, down a short hallway then square turn into a bathroom.

I got three former friends together to help. I figured nobody should have more than 80# at any one time and we walked it up the stairs smoothly. If one had stumbled it could've been sad. Sheetrock damage and such.

I had two 2x12's side by side in the short hallway with a furniture dolly on them. Set the tub on the dolly, rolled it six feet then stood it on its end and laid it over on its side through the bathroom door.

Everyone was pleased when it was done. Someone even remarked I couldn't talk much with a heavy load after about five stair steps and that just made their day. There was a joke in there somewhere because everyone else laughed.IMG_0157.JPG

The guy in the middle is not smiling because the tub is still setting on his foot. But he is a gentleman and didn't want to disrupt the photographer.

Good job! Were they real friends before and former now that you put them through that? :lol_hitti

We're going to be putting in a freestanding tub in our master bath remodel in a couple of months. Weighs 357#. Glad the contractor and crew will be dealing with it and not me. 15 steps as well but there's a 90° turn halfway up. Pretty sure I'll be sweating bullets just knowing it's happening.

I assume they're still friends. Maybe I meant to say farmer friends.

90° turns can be fun.

Now she wants her piano on her balcony. :willy_nil

HeyAndy
Chip and I say hi.
I’m with @stillp, lots of fancy flats have pianos in London, they all go up the outside of the building 👍

With regards to the cast iron tub, I worked on a site when I was young and a guy there, pulled the tub out of the van and stood it upright. Put his hammer through the plug hole took hold of the hammer handle and run upstairs with it over his shoulder, never seen it done again 😳

Hmmm. windows are too small, but I guess we could disassemble the wall.

Apparently his hammer head was well seated on the handle. :bounce:

Was the tub refinished? if so, which process was used? I always wondered how well the gel-coat fiberglass method held up over the years. And I also wondered if it was possible to re-fire the porcelain. Probably if one was willing to spend enough money. Nope.

Long time, no see. Amazing to see the progress you continue to make.

I'm counting down the ~42 years until retirement! :D

That would be very interesting to most of us Andy. You have some interesting ideas about how to accomplish things that we would never think of so I for one am looking forward to it.
And by the way - I'm with Mr. Zippy that we don't need the pictures of you testing the tub:eek:

I always love seeing construction pix!

It's hard enough acting as GC for a new house, but it sounds like you actually did a bunch of the work yourself. You sir, are a glutton for punishment, and you definitely know how to spend time on new projects -- you must have finished cleaning up your shop? ;-)

Happy New Year Andy!
