Is that car collection in OK also? Man he's got a nice collection. Some of the nicest COE"s I've ever seen! Speaking of, if you would be interested in parting with your white CEO, I would like to seriously talk with you.
Funerals, defiantly make you ponder about your own life, and where you are in it.
Nice to watch you do a add on the barn, I think I would add another 20' just because its easier to do now than later.:dunno:

Car collection is in an adjacent state. I'm not sure he wants to advertise where.

The white 48 Chevy will be the culmination of a 50 year dream: I want to replicate a welding truck I saw on the south side of Stillwater, OK in 1967-71. I at least have to try, I thought it was the coolest vehicle ever, and one of my buddies had a solid axle AC Bristol Cobra. (I might be warped) But, I will keep you in mind:dunno:

She was my last parent, so I can't go home now, it's an empty feeling.

Each square foot does cost more, plus, keeping the same roof slope, the current 15 ft addition gets down to an 8 ft ceiling. It would be a big job to alter the roof line. And, I'm going to have 4500 sq ft under that one roof, I'm just one guy :eyecrazy:

And, my wife suggested having all your eggs in one basket might not always be the best plan. Where did she come up with that?

Andy, sorry to hear this news about your Mom.

Thanks for posting the pictures of the trucks.

I am making a trip to Oklahoma in September. Will be at Haikey Creek Park out side of Broken Arrow for Family Reunion.

Thanks for the condolences.

Wish the pictures were better, the trucks were truly in excellent shape and all had top notch upgrades.

Are you flying or driving? If you're driving, you'll have to come almost right by my farm:dunno:

Thanks for the visit and the encouragement!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

I've been reading this thread over the past couple of days, and I gotta say, awesome shop! I love the different spaces for different purposes, and the tools and equipment you have, as well as the cars and tractors (I've got an old mf35 myself). Looking forward to seeing you make a great shop even better as you extend, organise, and consolidate!

Whether expected or not losing a loved one is never easy. I'm not looking forward to the day I will no longer be able to see and talk to my mother who is nearing 82. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks for sharing both your personal life and the vehicle show.

Thanks for the condolences. We've still got a lot of work to do with her home and estate. The house and farm has been in the family since it was homesteaded in 1830 or so. None of us want to live there, but none want to sell it either.

Thanks for the comments on the shop too! I like your summary: extend, organize, and consolidate. Consolidate is such a much better word than "discard"!

Thank you for your comments. My mom had deteriorated to the point we could not communicate, but she did stay with us twice last year, and I cherish those days we had together.

Hope you get to make the Steam O Rama in Republic. That should be a great show. I go the next weekend to Fairview Oklahoma to make brooms at the Major County National Two Cylinder Show. OH! Got to start making a few brooms! :willy_nil:willy_nil

Another hot one in Oklahoma! But the humidity was down a little, I think.

Got out early and put in the rest of my form work. Staked every eight feet and going back bracing every four feet.

IMG_1568_zpsfsm2v3ns.jpg

My SIL came by at noon and we checked level on the forms I had set. Needed to raise one place 1/2", the rest were on so full speed ahead! :)

While in Missouri saw a nice 65 Impala parked on the street. We discussed hot wiring it but didn't :dunno:

IMG_1563_zpsesfjupqn.jpg

Since my machine shop is air conditioned, I've been going in there to cool off. I sold a broom needle on eBay yesterday, so while cooling off today, I finished the needle. Broom makers needles are antiques and hard to come by. I made my own and started selling them on the internet. They are forged out of old hay rake tines, then ground to shape, drilled, a groove milled for the twine, and polished so they go through the broom easily. On the left is a forged blank, middle is finished needle, and right is a box to ship in normal mail. Not all boxes are walnut :rocker:

IMG_1567_zpswxknejzd.jpg

Back to form work tomorrow!

I appreciate all the visits!

Nice work on the broom needles Andy, you're a man of many talents.

Of the "modern" Chevys, '65s are my favourite (of course, I could be biased).

I've heard that before, but they spell it differently: "Andy is a man of mini talents". :)

When I acquired my broom equipment, there were no needles, so I had to make my own, couldn't find them on the internet. So I decided to offer them and have sold several.

Thanks for the visit!

Another day, another little work. Finished up the slab form work, sealed the bottom with gravel and added bracing, then cleaned out in front of my main door so I can pour a narrow slab to support my new overhead door (eventually)

IMG_1569_zps0dtz1jwr.jpg

Can't stake the form for the door until the day the concrete goes in or I can't close the sliding doors. HOT again today, but the humidity is down, still 40C is HOT.

Hot again today, concrete guys won't be here for a week, so I forced myself to start cleaning up.

When I first was inspired by this thread to clean my shop, before I had decided it would be more fun to build on first (and amuse others with the concept that I can organize by expanding), I seriously set about cleaning and organizing.

So the first day I drug two items into my shop from storage in an old chicken coop. I had a college friend (67-71) who stored his shop equipment in my shop in 1980 or so. When I moved to the farm in 1985 I brought most of his stuff with me, he helped move and took some stuff home. He had closed a commercial shop and was setting up at home in a subdivision. The rest of his stuff languished in an old chicken coop on my farm (20x60).

IMG_1575_zpsviqdd5to.jpg

I knew I could use anything I wanted, but it was his stuff. He died in a single plane crash in about 2012. So I inherited his old stuff. His wife nor daughter would want any of it. That's his 2 cylinder Onan peeking out from the right side of the door.

IMG_1577_zpshtx58d9n.jpg

IMG_1578_zpsekehz8vl.jpg

Most of this stuff is mine I moved in before I could occupy the farm. The sellers gave me this coop for storage. Turns out I didn't immediately need everything I moved :lol_hitti

And I've added to it over the years to keep from junking up my shop :willy_nil

I remember basically where most stuff is, and my friends' stuff. Really. REALLY I DO. Some of it, anyway.

Two transmissions, a 60 vette three speed, Borg Warner T-10, old Chevy four speed. The Ford three speed with bell housing :dunno: Don't know when it came to stay here. And it's out in the open.

But to clean up my shop, I fished out a 72 drawer small parts cabinet (originally a brass fitting inventory box) and set about cleaning it out and found lots of good stuff including the Holley valves. I know, by trying to use the box I set myself back by having to clean out what was in archaeological storage. :willy_nil:willy_nil:willy_nil

The other thing I dug out of the chicken coop from history was my old bud's parts washer. he had told me years ago to use it, he wasn't going to, but I had my yellow bucket (which is portable).

IMG_1572_zpsccxh4vn8.jpg

That's the brush hanging from a wire on the rim. Same yellow bucket since about 1990.

Here is his old parts washer

IMG_1573_zpslabmmcvp.jpg

Remember it has been in storage since 1982 or so, that's what, 34 years? Older than some posters here :dunno:

So today in my effort to clean I needed to move it, it was right in my way. So I cleaned out the corner where I wanted to put it, moved it there, and since it was clean inside, I put some diesel in it.

IMG_1574_zps46klbrck.jpg

Plugged it in, turned on the switch, and nothing. Who says "If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem, mate!"? Well, I rattled it by switching several times fast and it started working :rocker:

Dirty switch. Why would a switch get dirty in 400 months? :willy_nil

I know, GJ decorum is replace the switch, clean up the box, repair the broken lid stay, repaint (or powder coat), and install casters. Maybe even paint the raw sheetrock behind the unit :willy_nil But NOOOOOO! I had to get it out of the way and keep cleaning :eyecrazy: I'll fix it right later, after I wipe it off :banhim::banhim::banhim:

I did sweep under it first;)

O.K. now it gets interesting! How many of these treasure huts have you got hiding about the place? I have been scared of my chicken coop because A. I haven't cleared a path back to it yet...I still have to duck under some trees! B. It has some cool stuff that will tempt me before I am ready. C. There is a buzzard nest in there and while the parents did nothing to prevent me from rooting around a couple of times I could sense that they felt I was intruding.

It was used for a couple of years as the storage for the Ladies Auxiliary Fire Dept. toy drive and mostly has the rejects. Kinda like a buzzard **** covered Isle of Misfit Toys.

I still entertain the notion of bushhogging a couple of laps and setting it on fire.

OMG Andy! Just read the entire thread. I've been busting a gut at your dilemma because its like looking in the mirror! I've been smiling with the involvement of your family and great grand kids. (What a treat). Sad to hear of your mother passing. Laughing some more when you find stuff you haven't got a clue what it is! And cheering for you because you've made such amazing progress in a few weeks.:rocker: (P.S. Please don't check my thread as I've got the same hoarder gene - although it might not be quite as dominant as yours ... or else I haven't had as much time to work on it.)

It reminds me of the famous "To Do List":

To Do List:
1. Make a to do list.
2. Check off the first thing on the to do list.
3. Realize you've already accomplished 2 things!
4. Reward yourself with a nap (in progress)!

Anyway I love the progress you've made! It's an epic accomplishment!!!

I will share a short (philisophical) story... I used to have a neighbor that had the cleanest yard and house imaginable. His secret was to throw everything out! He would buy a broom to sweep his driveway, and it would be in the dumpster the next day. He'd buy a new bike. Old one is in the dumpster. New garbage can, new ... whatever. Old (whatever) is in the dumpster. Like you, I just don't understand that mentality!

Unfortunately, the stuff didn't stay in the dumpster. I rescued it. And I still have a lot of it. ... do you see where this is going? I've built shelves and sheds and places to store more of this "stuff that's too good to throw away". I no longer live next to that neighbor. I had to move a lot of the junk (good stuff) that he threw away.

I sometimes think back to the method to his madness and sometimes wonder if the cost of storing and building storage for "all that good stuff" isn't more expensive than just throwing it away and buying what you need when you need it?

Well I'm still not convinced which way is better but, just for good measure, last weekend I've been building more storage shelves :lol_hitti and started sorting through a lot of stuff I inherited from my dad after he passed away several years ago.

Your efforts are inspiring me to keep moving forward on my cleanup efforts!

Andy, I have to disagree with your statement that you are a man of mini talents. I'd say you may have mini talents as well as huge ones.

When do you plan on pouring the concrete?

My place isn't full yet, if you're going to burn your chicken coop, could I bring a trailer first? Not sure if I should load the trailer here or there:dunno:

What I would give for a neighbor like you had!!! One time a dump operator told me I was not welcome back, I was hauling almost as much out as I took in:willy_nil, people sure throw away some fine stuff.

I will approach your thread with fear and trepidation.

Waiting on the concrete guys is killing me, I have nothing to do but clean up:lol_hitti

When do you plan on pouring the concrete?

I plan on pouring it last week, but the guys I have coming are struggling in the heat. They said middle of next week, so I'm counting on late in the week or early the next week. The following week I have a trip to SC planned, so I hope they get it by then. I'm just not good at waiting on others, it is not a trait of procrastinators.

And thanks for the kind words!

:lol_hitti aren't the barn finds with the dust still on them not worth more if you leave it on ? It even has a racing stripe(s)

Question: Is it really a barn find if you put it there and knew it was there? What about if you put it there and forgot it was there? What about if you put it there and deny it when you find it?

Did you see how clean it was inside? My bud was a real craftsman. Somehow your own dust is not patina:dunno:

I will clean it up as a tribute to a fine engineer, mechanic, machinist, etc, etc. (he taught me welding and machining while we were in college)

I'm looking forward to the day that I drag one of the cars out of my shed - I'm sure that I'll be over the moon about my "barn find" (in my old age.. I'll have totally forgotten how it got there in the first place).
Oh look, I've just found a car in my shed. :bounce:

I'll probably look for a space in the shed and put the car in there (again) to work on it later. :willy_nil.

Some time later...

You do know I couldn't possibly just burn the chicken coupe! I would always wonder. And showing up with a trailer...go for it. I will try to unload stuff on you. Hint: Don't bring food, make me think that you will feed me after negotiations.

I have a lot of barn finds and even barn overflow finds I pulled a 69 Mustang out to give to my nephew that had been sitting for 28 years. 2 weeks and it was a legal running car. The spot was quickly filled with a 96 Mustang.

Found this transmission. What's it from? I see no logos, just square input shaft and torque tube output.

IMG_1294_zpstep6i3hs.jpg

that square plate on the front makes me think it is an adaptor of sorts. still reading this, trying to catch up. lookig way better just after page 3.

just finished it andy. amazing progress you have made. had to laugh when you said the dump operator said don't come back! when i lived on a farm in the 70s we had 11 out buildings and one was a 120' or so chicken coop. never filled it, but did haul a lot back from the local dump. some people would tear down things like an old barn with huge beams and just dump them. my clean up involved taking just the basics and calling friends to take the rest. the day we left there were about 12-15 trucks and trailers lined up to haul it all away. i just told them no fighting. am 73 now and parsing out my tools and things i will not use again to friends. good luck

Thanks for the visit! Being late for work is OK so long as you don't get fired :) Just tell them you were absorbed in GJ, I'm sure they'll understand :dunno:

I looked out east and didn't see you? I live just east of Terlton, me, the wife, dog and cows. And the junk.

Thanks for the comments! I spent a little time on your thread, WOW! I had a fire in '88, had to start over, so you have my sympathy on your explosion. Great recovery!
