Andy
I just watch and try to learn from your projects
I am very thick headed and learning new tricks is not easy for me so I don't say much. I will say thank you for sharing even the stuff I don't understand.

Hope Hersey shows back up soon

Don

You're not fooling me, Don, I see what you do. But thanks for the kind words.

I miss ole Hershey terribly. And her buddy (really my son in law's dog) is just living on our porch. If she shows up it will be a happy day for one and all. She will get a nice hamburger.

Andy I trust Hershey turns up soon...

Well done one the router:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks, Steve! I keep hoping and calling.

The router setup is working better than I had expected.

Andy, you may have a better source for spin ons than I do, but I found these type things

http://www.filterprofilters.com/?product=25-micron-7-x-32-filter-bag

hello.png

to be much more economical. One sock is good for 10-1500 gal of veggie oil, depending how bad it is. Just store away from rats between uses, or they are done for. Let a drum or IBC tote settle in the sun a day or two, then pump or pour all but the bottom funk through the filter. Not being in California, you might need another plan in winter.
other sizes http://www.filterprofilters.com/

Hopefully Hershey is just out having an adventure.

Thanks for the lead. Those are sure cheap enough. I could do everything in the heated shop. I am pressuring the oil through the filter but it may not last long. It's not cheap at $8 so if it plugs up quickly I'll need another option. I have thought about putting a sludge drain on it if I can figure out how to install one inexpensively on each new filter can.

What are you doing with the vegetable oil?

Thanks for the well wishes on my friend Hershey.

Good luck to Hershey, let’s hope she is busy somewhere.

And of course Cali will be a good thing.

Glad Sharon was straight onto and into Cali.

I have house and yard work today, been too long out of the garage though.

I would prefer Hershey was taken, and to a good home. But she won't be happy in a fence.

I was surprised by Sharon's immediate desire for Cali. Now I'm hoping the guy doesn't change his mind.

What does the strange phrase "too long out in the garage" mean? It must be a cultural thing. I've never seen those words put together that way and can't figure out what you mean.

Think I've figured it out.:bounce: It's one of those literature things where you can leave out a pertinent point but everyone is still supposed to understand. "too long since I've been out in the garage".

Thanks for the visits, guys.

Hope to see Hershey soon. Who can tell what Cali is meant to bring into your family, that would not have come had Hershey not turned up missing? His path may prove to become a legacy! His return will surely be a blessing. I'm with you Andy. Bobby

Very well spoken, Bobby. Cali will likely be an inside dog, Sharon is needing the company and Cali may be just the girl to help out.

Thank you.

Yup....... :lol_hitti

Too long since I got dirty and down on the floor.

Culture and language for sure.

I was going to go spend some time there today, but Joy has other plans.
At least the lawn is cut, both bathrooms are very clean, the way I like them, as my lodger does not clean his, and mine was due as well.

Maybe tomorrow after Bootfair, in fact, certainly tomorrow..... shop time

Andy, a dog is good medicine. Some, if not all, recognize changes in us before we do. A few seconds warning so Sharon can contact you would be a wonderful thing. They also lick wounds clean so you can save on disinfectant and Bandaids.

Like you, I hope Hershey is in a good place. My dog Ellie is praying for Hershey.

Hershey is back!!!

She just showed up late this morning hungry but without a scratch. I think she was picked up and then let go when they saw the Facebook posts. I don't do Facebook but it seems to be most people's lives around here and, if that's what happened, it is great.

Thanks for all the concerns!!

Well my mistake. I misread your post, as you can see in my quote, you said "out of", I read "out in".

So, nevermind, I understand now.:bounce:

But Hershey's back, so all is well!

Thanks, guys.

Hershey's Back! :bounce: :bowdown: :rocker::hellobye: :drink: :lol2:
Wonderful news Andy! Root beers all around!

I see you've heard. Great news!!

What you didn't know was that Sharon loves Cokes. However she has had trouble sleeping when she has one in the afternoon (when we typically have lunch) so I started stocking 7Up in the house for no caffeine. We both like it, but not much. Lately we've been buying Root Beer at restaurants so yesterday I bought some at the grocery. Your suggestion was taken to heart, we're sharing one now!

Handy: AWESOME NEWS!! How’s Hershey like Cali?

Have a great SATURDAY!!

Hershey has not met Cali. We have committed to give Cali a home but when her current loving owner is ready. No reason to push him. Hershey gets along with most all the dogs so I'm expecting them to be friends from the first.

We're having a great Saturday!!

Thanks for the visits.

We're having a great Saturday!!
Andy, Ellie (Eleanor Roosevelt Heine) says "You're Welcome" (two hours of praying and her wish came true. Far as I know she gets whatever she prays for. Unfortunately she rarely prays for people and never for things or money. She's 91 (13 in stupid people years) and very happy to get through the day herself.

That's great news about Hershey! :deathmeta :rocker: :bounce:

See? Hershey decided to not come home on a Saturday. :)

Thank you!

But she did come home on a Saturday, but it was everybody else's Saturday.

My woodcutter speculated that she may have chased a deer and easily could have gone five miles cross country then took a while to get back home. He may be right. She's not talking, but her buddy is really glad to see her.

Hershey's Back!

It's a happy day, Steve!

I read about Ellie praying for Hershey and I was touched. Now I'm embarrassed, I neglected to comment on her generosity.

Thank you Ellie!! Thank you for your kindness!

And thanks for reminding me, Bob!

Yay! Glad the pup is back!

Thanks! She was sure missed. She is also very glad to be home.

And life is good. A good pet makes life a little better. Glad Hershey's back.

I have to dedicate more time to her, I was regretting not having spent more, so she will be glad she was gone.

Thanks for the well wishes guys!!

Spent a little time in the shop today, amongst all the other excitement, accompanying the roofer down to the church parsonage to get a reroofing quote.

I put a piece of foam into the router to see how the vacuum system would handle foam.

attachment.php

I was afraid the foam would just stick to the glass. A little did, but it basically disappeared into the vacuum.

The high speed tool does a nice job on the foam.

attachment.php

Sliced it off with the hot wire cutter.

attachment.php

And I have a 1/2" thick foam gear.

I started with a 2" hunk of foam so I went back and made two more on the same piece of foam. No residue, the blower really does a job on the foam. Once it's in the air it goes right out the vacuum line. Here's the last one with no cleaning done.

attachment.php

I also made a pattern for a rip fence for the hot wire cutter. For tall items like the gears I've been using a 3x4x3/8" piece of angle iron. It's heavy, so I thought an aluminum one would be nice. Here's everything all sprued up.

attachment.php

And painted with sheetrock mud.

attachment.php

We'll see how tomorrow goes, I plan to cast these on Monday. But it's busy too, and my grandson is coming up Tuesday to work on his truck. That's first priority.

Thanks for looking in!

^ What's next, a clock made of cast Andyluminum gears? ;)

No, then somebody would come along and want to clean my clock.

Andy great work as usual.
May I ask what are the gears for or have I missed something?

The gears have no purpose at present. I wanted to determine I could make a involute gear shape on the router. However I have a friend who wants an old fashioned rope making machine. I could use them for one of those. It would be much nicer cast in brass, however.

They are a bit large for a rope machine but I may build one anyway. Or they make the perfect gift for the guy who has everything. Else.

Thanks for the comments!

Great to hear life at the iron farm is back to normal (Hershey came home)

I'm glad that Bob asked about the foam gear cause I was wondering the same thing and I don't read every post cause I'm a bit lazy. LOL

Loving the gears.

Even love it more when a toy becomes a tool and a tool becomes a toy.

The vacuum system obviously makes a huge difference in clearing the space, as does the cabinet, keeping the shop a lot cleaner.

Off to Bootfair...

Too bad you didn’t have Hines Root Beer. You could have been having a Hines, happy with Hershey hearing Ellie Heine’s hopeful prayers.

What the H is going on here?

I just realized Bob's dog is named after Darth Vader's sister.

I feel better than I did 60 years ago when Lassie came home!! Bet you do too! Bobby

Thanks, Bobby! We had some quality Hershey time today. And it was nice.

So glad Hershey is back! I was reading along in a small state of panic hoping the end was positive, and it was!

I had outside, free range dogs my whole childhood, so I fully understood what you were going through. They can get into things they are not expecting, but the freedom they have makes a wonderful life for them.

A short video of the CNC router in the enclosure. The noise is the central vacuum.

CNC Router Enclosure

This popped up in you Mytube errr... my Youtube feed today! Looks great!

The copper nozzle works quite well. You could swap it for one of those articulated nozzles that they normally use for coolant. That way you can get the nozzle closer and it won't damage if you bump the work.

..

Great to see Hershey back.

Was a bit worried as I caught up with the backlog. Though I wonder if she met someone else in her travels and... if there might be some puppies(Hershey-lets?) in 2 months time.

Was wondering what you are planning on casting next. Those are some real farm implement gears! :)

Great to hear about Hershey's return. I'm interested in how the fence will work out when poured.

JB

We are still ecstatic over Hershey's return!

The fence is not straight, but straight enough.

attachment.php

And I was expecting shrinkage opposite the ribs. What I got was very slight

attachment.php

I made the pieces 1/2" thick hoping for 3/8" after machining straight and flat but 1/4" would do. I'm expecting a full 3/8" now. In retrospect I should have made the ribs 1/4". That would have minimized the shrinkage opposite them and might have helped the bowing. I worked at getting the corner joint straight but didn't care too much about the free side, I had no way to hold them anyway. The corner warped a little too, but not as much.

attachment.php

When I do another I may try to crown it a bit to see if it will cast straight. It looks like cooling of molten metal in the rib area, which would be the last to cool, caused the warpage.

So glad Hershey is back! I was reading along in a small state of panic hoping the end was positive, and it was!

Thanks! I see you understand. If you happen to live where a dog can run free you know you give them an excellent life, even if it is shortened by their actions. No. 1 for Hershey was that she would not run cattle. That can be great fun for a dog but is impermissible.

Hershey has it made. She was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Tick Fever and has been getting her pills inside a hot dog. Hmmm, she likes them, and I think hot dog treats are here to stay. :bounce:

Glad to see Hershey is back. The vacuum looks to be doing great

Dwight

Thanks! She knew she was ok all along. But we were sure guessing.

The vacuum is exceeding my expectations.

Thanks! I'm not much for making long videos and spending 24 hours to load them. But you can see the chips are airborne and not collecting. Great idea on the coolant nozzles. I may try that, although this is keeping the area clean it uses a lot of air. I guess air is cheap, and my compressor advertises 50,000 hr pump life. That is a pretty good stint.

Hershey has been fixed. I hate killing puppies. And they can make many more than you can give away. But she could have met a family she went home with. She has no collar, and is skinny right now. She has lost two collars, and the way she chases animals and digs out moles I fear a collar could get caught on a root in a hole and she couldn't get out. And I couldn't find her.

I'm thinking about putting a little place in the house to feed her, a Hershey Bar, as it were.

Thanks for all the kind comments!

Funny how animals so completely rule our hearts and minds.

I wonder what Hershey will make of the sudden influx of people when you have the inspection from the Motherland.

Hi Andy, I just caught up after not reading for a long time and I'm very glad Hershey's little adventure turned out okay. Have you considered asking your vet to insert a chip? That'd increase the odds of her being returned if she was ever picked up, even without a collar.

Love the gears and fence - I'll bet there'll be some brass gears happening soon!

Tattoo in her ear would help too. But she most likely got lost chasing a deer or rabbitt.

On another note.

I was at a lock Smith today and they had a pile of keys and a bucket of key shavings. She said they were not pure brass though.

She said they toss it all out.

Hi Andy,

Glad to hear the pup returned!

I sent you a PM reply from my iPad Sunday night, and checked for responses yesterday while I was waiting to be called for jury selection and was never selected. I suspect you may not have received the response because the message does not appear in my Sent Items in the forum. I don't like the iPad app. I'm hoping this post on your forum works, but it doesn't look like the messaging is working from my computer either (using Chrome).

Amber/yellow light may indicate you have a power supply issue with the Dell. Can you send me your service tag (try PM)? The data should be recoverable from your hard drive using an external USB to hard drive adapter (I believe I also have a spare one of those) but I'm hoping you've been backing up your important stuff. :willy_nil

Let me know where you're at (not Terlton).

Hershey Bar. Great idea.

Someone mentioned brass a few posts back. Our building has two of these per floor, 5 story building. Wonder if I could remove them without getting wet?

Chips time in the glass shop was not a success, to be honest.

Andy, really glad Hershey’s come home, but very impressed with the way you crowbarred Hershey Bar into your post. 10/10 for effort. [emoji106]

OK Andy. You need to start putting warnings on your hammers relating to glass and incompatibility.

Mr. Andy,

Figured I'd say something this time. I have visited your thread just about everyday for the last few months and today I was kinda thirsty so i grabbed a coke, thank you. I left the can so you can recycle it and then I can see what you do with it. :) I am amazed at what you do and how you do it. Thanks for the on going education.
