Andy,

What more can I say than thank you for your input into the memorial to the memory of a very special man, friend and mentor to many.

I think all of us who were touched in various ways by Steve, I got a parcel and letter, including descriptions in his thorough way, are even more comforted by the “work” you are doing in his memory.

Just looking at your growing pile of plaques makes me smile, because I have no doubt that Steve would be humbled by the respect and love shown on this forum by this Brotherhood.

Thank you, but you know thanks aren't desired, just a desire to keep Steve's memory and exceptional skills at motivating through kindness alive in the memory of each who crossed his path. The truly great thing about the forum is new people can read his and other threads and get to know him like we did without even knowing of his passing.

Andy they look like silver Olympic medals and represent more; a world wide brotherhood.

 And a gold one is in the works for The Shed Downunder.

Very nice to see how far you have come on this casting thing. I remember reading along when you first started figuring things out and the things you were making. Now, you do this with great confidence. Knowledge is power.

Thanks! I hope I'm not displaying too much confidence however. I'm still a raw novice but I'm having great fun.

Andy, WOW
your castings are amazing, I cant believe how good they look. And just as important they are perfect just as Steve would strive to achieve.
When I designed the original sticker I tried to keep it easy to read/recognize and simple to reproduce, too many fine details and it is so much harder to recognize and reproduce in many forms.
Many thanks from all of us here to help keep Steve's memory going.

Thanks so much! They are far from perfect, they are sand castings, so there are lots of little defects. I hope no one is disappointed.

I fear I haven't thanked you enough for sharing your excellent design with me. So, thanks again!

Anyone who wants one, you included, just need to send name and address to [email protected]

And then be patient.

I glued magnets on the first one so it can hold itself up.

Hi Andy, sorry but i have some bad news about a Nigerian Prince, I do hope this is not your Prince

All is not lost. His cousin has informed me that as his last living relative he can gain control of the funds however he needs $13,000US in order to pay for the police investigation and certain other convenience fees the local police charge in matters such as this. It sure seems like paltry seed money for the return. He has promised me a full 50% and I have no reason to doubt him. After all, we now know the Prince indeed had the funds and what I have sent him so far will still be amply rewarded. Thanks for posting that, He had gone silent some time back and I was a bit concerned something had happened. Then I get the email from his cousin and your confirmation. My faith in human nature is strong.

You're laughing but I'm laughing all the way to the bank, Rian.

I would say those are absolutely fine Andy.

It’s all about the sentiment

Thank you, you are redeemed for your feeble attempt at ridicule.

Andy you are being to harsh of a critic on yourself. Those came out fantastic and anyone on GJ would be proud to own one including Steve.

Bret

Thanks for the vote of confidence, and I'm sure you'll be kind when you receive yours.

For any Aussies wanting the castings. I am trying to work out a way to save Andy from paying International freight etc. Watch this space or perhaps the QST topic in Free Parking.

Update. I have made arrangements for Freight from the USA to Australia for the castings. Any one wanting them in Australia can organise with Andy and they can get them from me after the 17th August or I can post them after that date.

Thanks, Simon! We'll try to take advantage of your generosity.

That's a great idea Simon, I'll get in on that.

Thanks again, Mat!

I did a little casting. What else is new? Aluminum bronze this time.

attachment.php

Thought I'd do a trivet too, but failed for the second time to get a successful pour with aluminum bronze in my trivet mold.

attachment.php

Going to have to pour it iron hot, I guess.

Then we had our great great grand daughter stop by for a visit. Her dad has been enjoying tinkering with and driving the yellow car.

attachment.php

Glued magnets on the first 10+1 (after my sample one). The words on the back are kind of spotty and variable. I don't think they'll get seen much.

attachment.php

And the obverse

attachment.php

The only aluminium bronze I intend to cast is serial number 1 and headed to The Shed Downunder for Andrew to do with as he pleases.

attachment.php

And got four more cast before breakfast this morning. It was only 68F, a grand morning.

attachment.php

If you would like an aluminum Quality Shed Time please email your name and mailing address to [email protected] and I'll get you on the list.

If you want an aluminum bronze one, please make yourself a pattern, learn to cast, and enjoy!:bounce:

Andy,
Much respect to you and your efforts to pay tribute to Steve and his legacy here on GJ. I had started to read his thread many months ago, and had not gotten very far into it before my attention was drawn elsewhere. I have picked up again since his passing, and am in the process of reading it through. I sent you an email to request one of these fine castings, and will display it with pride in my shop.
TwoBytes--I sent you a PM to request your Paypal information. It does not show in my "Sent Messages." Can you confirm that it went through? If not, can you PM me?

Thank you both for your generosity.

Thanks, Simon! We'll try to take advantage of your generosity.

Collection point has been set up in LA. Any one wanting to take advantage of this will need to let Andy know so he can have them at that location before August 14th.

Nice to know that the Shed Down Under will have the most Unique and the Most desired collectable version. That is just how it should be.

There is no way we could collectively repay Steve for the great goodwill he spread tirelessly around the globe. Doing a small bit is gratifying.

Chuckling here at the offer to cast many alu-bronze plaques.

Could one rescue the DEB Trivet by removing bits from it???

Best offer I could come up with in the 1/2 Cup tradition of saying nothing negative.

One could salvage part of it, it had all six feet to stand on it's own. I thought about that, then saw a QST logo and cut it up.:lol_hitti

Wait, what? How many greats?

To make it easier, it's our great grand daughter's child. Permission granted to take off your shoes if you need counting aid.

You'll be glad you did. It's a lot of fun and you can make something. Kind of like ***. You like to do it over and over.

Thanks, Dwight! It was very nice to have our great grand daughter here, and her baby made it extra special, that's the great great grand daughter. My wife was a grandmother at 36. We tend to be overachievers here.

Yep, got your message Chris, and reply sent.

Andy,

If you are wondering why I have dug up some old posts then I need to explain as I have just read from page 1 to current. I had a ghost on my computer today in the way of a PM I read but did not act on asking me to check a couple of posts that could be spammers or scammers in your topic. I was cleaning out the PM folder and came across a message from 1/2 Cup asking me to check.

How did that Bull recover from the suspected Snake bite?

Has taken me about 4 & 1/2 hours to go through the lot. found a couple of suspect posters but no scam or spam.

Andy,
Great work on the QST castings! That alum-bronze one is a treasure and I'm sure Andrew and family will cherish it. It is a wonderful tribute you are doing for them and for the GJ family to offer to send a casting.
Thank you for doing this for everyone here!
Cheers

Haha, sorry for treating your thread like a community message board Andy, but I was responding to an enquiry about a donation to the Hospice, so it was sort of on topic.

So Steve was still on the job as of a few days ago?:bounce:

The bull still have a severely swollen leg however has is able to breed. I'm pretty sure he is glad he wasn't put down and we were on the verge two years ago.

I believe there are suspect posters in this thread, especially the OP.

My pleasure, Slim. Thanks for the kind words, but as you very well know it is Stephen R. Church who deserves the credit for fostering the atmosphere of positive attitudes.

I was loving it, just pointing it out. Feel free to post anything anytime on this thread. Interesting stuff helps detract from the inappropriately named thread.

Great QST Andy.

Well no, it was an old PM from him I had read but for some reason not acted on when I should have. I can tell you it was interesting reading back over your topic from page 1. This was the reason Steve and I spoke on the phone more than sending messages as we often missed things when busy.

What I call a Ghost in the machine. Was like a reminder to follow up.

Unlike a NBN issue I would have loved to run by Steve where a woman reported voices from her Gas oven. Turns out an NBN installer shorted wires on the back of the oven and it acted like a speaker. Yes she heard phone conversations when she opened the oven. Now that is a true Ghost in the machine.

Great great grandma looks proud of her great great grand daughter (not ashamed to say it took me a while to make sure I got that right )

Nice job making the emeritus badge something special Andy. Casting that many with that level of consistency is no small feat either.

Can see why you like the snap flasks.

Definitely looking forward to finding a good spot for one.

Surprised nobody commented on the composition of this photo with the strategically placed classic in the background.

Old iron in the background, some fresh metal in the foreground. Perfectly sums up Andy's lifestyle right there!

She is immensely pleased with the new generation. We have a young friend whom I mentored in his early engineering career. In fact he lived with us and worked on the farm for me summers while going to college. He is very successful now. Stopped by with his three precious children but the youngest one and GiGi hit it off the best.

The beauty of casting, once you learn the pattern it is very easy to be consistent.

Buy some box hardware and make all your flasks snap flasks. You don't have to open them to use them, and they are handy for deflasking as you can pop them open in a flash to get the sand out. Really does not take long to screw the hardware on.

Ha! I like it, but it is composition by chance. When you've got junk everywhere it's hard to keep it out of the pictures.:(

I guess my place looked empty.

I grabbed some radiators off his truck while he was not looking too!

I was really tired so I asked if he'd like to learn to make molds. He was interested so I let him.

He did great. Something about Huckleberry Finn and painting a fence was mentioned but I quickly diverted the conversation.

I poured his mold this morning. Great casting.

QGBT, probably better than QST unless QGBT is during QST.
Quality Grand Baby Time.

The one of a kind alum-bronze couldn’t go to a better home.

In the military there’s going above and beyond. Casting the QST emblems and including the magnet plus hammers. I salute you.
