Question: Did you just do the outside or did you remove the crystal/glass and do the inside too?

98% of it cleaned up from the outside, but there was a spot bothering me, so I as able to easily able to pop the cover off and do the inside.

White rubbing compound works well, too.

The best product for this is novus plastic polish. They make three grades. 1 is more of an everyday cleaner and is the finest. Comes in a pump spray bottle. 2 is a medium polish and is in paste format. 3 is for deep scratches. 2 is the most useful and what you would use on a face dial. Novus is great stuff

I've gone through a few bottles of the stuff (the big ones). Rather than spend the extra ducks on Step 3, I just use instant detailer - seems to work just as well. I use detailer a LOT. (or am I thinking of Step 1?...whatever the watery stuff is)

I just got a new (used) windshield. I'm going to have to get some of that.

Yep. I love the stuff. Someone here recommended it for cleaning up the face shields in welding helmets. I'm amazed at how useful it has been. I've done dials, headlights, sunglasses, and camera lenses.

Agreed. I found out about it from Jody over at Weldingtipsandtricks.com. It really works well. But, I have to say the OP did a really good job using toothpaste. And toothpaste is a heck of a lot cheaper...

Yup...None of my motorcycles ever get washed with a hose. Everything is done with instant detailer and a microfiber.

Helmet & shield done with it before each ride. Takes bugs & bird **** off everything easily.

Really couldn't use it before. (haven't really used it yet...............lol)
I had the Novis (is it?) in an Amazon order, But never did the order.
I found what I needed as part of the order elsewhere (IIRC)
The windshield I brought was never used , according to the seller,
But his wife was showing me the shield, and it was dusty.
I wanted to clean it, but she didn't understand. I wanted a nice sudsy Bucket of hot water and a hose, but she brings out some wet dish towel.
Don't think I scratched it, but it's just the Idea.
I guess peoples are not automatically on the same page all the time.
I need to get off my **** and get it installed, and get the oil changed.
I wonder is this will be the year I finally get the primary off and fix the reason it's kicking out of 1st on occasion. Very common and annoying problem on the 02 sportster.
pretty good deal on the W/S esp. if it is indeed new. (It does look like it after I cleaned it) It's quick detach so this old fat **** can think he looks all sporty pimping around town, with out the bags, back rest and W/S..................
EDIT, Oh, I Paid $50.00 for it.

I don't know if that was me, but I do use Novus on my welding helmet clear covers to get them looking perfect after a sudsy bath to remove the brown welding smoke first.

I had a similar thing to polish, bought a WW2 compass at a yard sale for cheap because the dial was all white from moisture and ozone. I didn't want to use toothpaste because you really have no idea from brand to brand how course it is, so I used a little meguires mag polish and then plastic headlight restorer.

came out perfect, made my $2 compass into a $75 antique...

just be careful if you are using it on something coated, like a motorcycle windshield, they usually have a thin UV coating that will polish off...some headlights are like that too.
