Right now I have a regular Home Depot Rustoleum 2-part epoxy floor. I'd like to clear coat it to give it a refresh and get the shiny look.

The clear coat that they sell at Home Depot says it can go over an existing floor, but how well will that work? Do I have other better options? I'd like to stick with a coating rather than a Racedeck or similar.

Thanks.

What clear coat exactly at home depot are you referring to? Most don't carry a clear for epoxy floors.

In terms of prep, you will need to clean the surface well and then rough it up with some 100 grit sandpaper before applying.

They carry some rustoleum kit now. Says it's made to go over an existing floor. But I don't wanna do it and have it look like ****. I just can't get entirely into race deck.

I recently used the same product (Rustoleum epoxy coat) and went back to Menards for a clear coat of some type and they didn't offer one. I should use a clear on this floor right?? Maybe I will check HD for that product.

I checked the clear coat product at Lowes and it said it was to be used with water based ONE PART floor coatings only.

That's because it's an acrylic coating. These type of acrylic coatings do not work well at all on garage floors and should not be used.

You generally will not find an epoxy clear coat or any other type of clear that can be used on a garage floor coating at the home improvement centers. You usually have to order it online, such as the Rust-Oleum Professional clear by EpoxyShield. That is why I was suspicious of what they had to begin with.

As Scotty said, you would be better off with a polyurethane clear coat since you will have to order it in anyways. It is much more scratch and chemical resistant than epoxy, plus it's U.V. resistant as well.

We have found that our Armorclad Military Grade 2 part topcoat can go over virtually any epoxy coated floor. It will give it a magnificent shine, and protect it.
