Clear urethane coating and prep scratches

I am going to be installing a clear aliphatic urethane top coat over my 2 week old 100% solid epoxy floor w/medium flake. As I under stand it, I'm supposed to "scuff sand" the floor with 100 grit sandpaper, vacuum, and wipe down with D-alchohol prior to applying the clear.

My question is, if the clear is actually "crystal" clear, how come you won't see the evidence of my prep sanding of the epoxy and flakes once the urethane dries? I guess I know it won't but why not?

GJ is an awesome site, has really helped me a lot. Thanks for any input!!

You should "screen" it. The same way you would prep a wood floor.
Remove the dust and then coat. The "scuffing" will go away just like it does on a car.

Yes, polyaspartics, urethanes. etc... are very, very clear.

that is a great question, because if you are too aggressive with sanding and the polyurethane goes down really thin, it will not hide or cover the scratches.

Typically, as Scotty said, 100 grit screen is good. As long as nothing is left shiny, you should be good.

Ok, my floor right now is amazingly glossy and I don't want to ruin what I've already got!

Thank you.

Fernando, I just had a guy do my garage floor that was trained by you. Colin from Crete Coatings. I haven't had a chance to see the finished product yet as I've been out of town, but once I do, I'll post pictures. I was there through the densifier application, but had to travel for work.

I am going to put vinyl tiles down in a storage closet, and would like to clear coat it when finished. I haven't picked my tiles yet, but I imagine I'll have to slightly sand them prior to applying a polyaspartic coating.

I guess I'll jump back in here on my thread. I've heard what I should do to prep the floor, but can anyone answer the question of why the scratches won't show through the clearcoat? Also, I've got very small bubbles which are sharp around the "popped" part of the bubble. I'm wondering how carried away I can get with sanding or screening and not run into trouble with the sanding work showing through?

Zog, the clear is filling in these very light scratches and then leveling off the top.
That is why your objective is to de-gloss the finish and nothin more.

If you go hog wild on the sanding you may need two coats of clear .
